Routes that do not have fuel surcharges (YQ) when operated by carriers that normally charge YQ:
1. USA-Germany-Other country. If only the Germany-other country segment is on LH it does not have YQ. E.g. DFW-FRA-BLR with TATL on UA and FRA-BLR on LH.
2. USA-Canada-Other country. The USA-Canada segment on AC does not have YQ if the Canada-Other country segment is operated by a carrier that does not charge YQ. E.g. DFW-YYZ-ADD.

2. USA-Canada-Other country. The USA-Canada segment on AC does not have YQ if the Canada-Other country segment is operated by a carrier that does not charge YQ. E.g. DFW-YYZ-ADD.

Omg! Finally I get to post this after years of saving and planning! Thanks to everyone on here for the help!
A true miniRTW:
YYZ HND AC J. STOP
NRT SIN SQ Y A380 (hoping to get J later. I keep watching)
SIN SYD SQ J. STOP
SYD BKK TG J
BKK FRA TG J (a380)
FRA AMS LH Y for now. STOP
AMS YYZ AC J (for now hoping to get LH later)
300k for 2! I thought it was 320 but the email says 300. Fees 1200 per person. Totally worth it!^

About as simple an award as you can get
YYZ-HND-YYZ all on AC in J Cost $540.12 total for 2. Booked on line.
(Last reward with a segment PER-SIN-TPE-YYZ kind of convinced me that sometimes just the shortest flight between 2 ponts is the best way to go)

Poland Passenger Charge is $0.30?
If I was the Polish Authorities, I'd increase to $3.00, generate a 10x increase in revenue, and get a bonus and promotion all in the first 6 months 🤣

I guess it's complicated - $340 CAD. I don't know what that's made up of, I'm just glad it's so little. When I was counting the surcharges for each leg independently I got very close to $1k,
YYZ-YUL Air Canada
YUL-ZRH Swiss
ZRH-BCN Swiss
BCN-ATH Agean
ATH-CAI Egyptair
CAI-IST Egyptair
IST-DPS Turkish
DPS-SIN Singapore
SIN-PER Singapore
PER-SIN Singapore
SIN-ICN Singapore
ICN-BKK Asiana
BKK-TPE Thai

I can't believe I didn't notice that as I was working on my spreadsheet. I must have changed routings so many times (TAP, SAS, ANA, and Ethiopian all got cut) that I stopped paying attention to taxes vs. YQ.

YVR-NRT J (AC)
NRT-AKL J (NZ)
SYD-SIN Y (SQ)
SIN-TPE Y (BR)
TPE-PEK J (CA)
PEK-YYC PY (AC)
The YQ was really high when I booked over the phone ($727.71, $426.60 are the infamous carrier charge) vs when I calculate segment by segment (~ $450) Given this is over Christmas and it's impossible to get NZ J I thought I'll bite.

Last minute trip for next month...
AMS-YYZ ACr Y
YYZ-YEG ACr Y DEST
YEG-SFO AC Y STOP
SFO-ZRH LX Y
ZRH-TXL LH Y
YQ was $370, and we tried really hard to find UA connections via the US to get to YEG. Oh well, for a month out this ended up saving some money over the cash fare, but be damned about AC's scamcharged unfortunately.
Rep did some sleuthing and found that about $150 of YQ was due to AC YEG-SFO
Since we called over VOIP, the call kept dropping and had to repeat the process three times with three reps. I found it amusing that all of them wanted to look for UA/TP/LX options to reduce the taxes and "avoid flying with AC" lolol
