Routes that do not have fuel surcharges (YQ) when operated by carriers that normally charge YQ:

1. USA-Germany-Other country. If only the Germany-other country segment is on LH it does not have YQ. E.g. DFW-FRA-BLR with TATL on UA and FRA-BLR on LH.
2. USA-Canada-Other country. The USA-Canada segment on AC does not have YQ if the Canada-Other country segment is operated by a carrier that does not charge YQ. E.g. DFW-YYZ-ADD.

Wow. Two 50 km + crosstown airport transfers on the same outbound trip? Now that is serious dedication.

Tokyo could have gone either way. Arrive in the evening, then 10am out of HND or 2pm out of NRT. I figured I'd have more time with the NRT option.

PVG/SHA is 5-6 hours, and was out of necessity due to phantom CA space. I don't want to go to SHA, and if I could get a non-stop TYO-SEL, I wouldn't even go to China. I expect to pay at least 2 change fees on this itinerary.

I'm familiar with TYO, but I definitely checked the China forum before booking PVG/SHA. I came across an interesting thread with someone who had 2.5 hours. Let's just say I'm glad I have 5.5

BP is in fact Korean PSC, Departure Tax and Contribution to International Destinations. Whether that figure is in KRW or USD in unknown to me. If it's the latter, according to the Google, 332.60 KRW is about 0.30 USD.

While this is fun and interesting, we made need one of our TA pals to help decipher this.

Oh yeah. I have never done the PVG/SHAI transfer, but you have to figure anyone trying to do that in 2.5 hours must be crazy or not really realise what they were in for.

If you want to go Tokyo to Seoul, can you not get HND to GMP? Asiana flies that route and a quick look on a random date shows 2 direct flights. It would save you from being Shanghaied.

Believe me, if there were any available TYO-SEL flights, I would have taken them. I will definitely keep my eyes open though

HKG-TPE-YVR (BR)

Booked for 3 pax in J, but SIN-HKG only had 2 seats and TPE-YVR only had one.

About $580 per person, of which $275 was YQ
When and if the J seats open up, can you be put back to what you have paid for? do you need to pay a change fee to get that? TPE-YVR in Y is tough.

Anyway, I don't have the receipt yet, but they quoted something like $1039 per person. Does that sound right? Keep in mind I'm SE.

I plan to make changes (LH F for the TATL, and some kind of F for Asia to Europe), so there will be opportunities to recalculate, but I'm a little miffed by this. I've flown NH/TG/LH F SFO-Asia-Europe-SFO for significantly less.

They did have a hell of a time getting this booked, so I wonder if they did something manually and screwed it up.

Edit: Receipt just came through. 459.52 per person. That sounds much closer to what I expected. I guess the phone agent was wrong

Is that 137.90 or 48.40 for the YQ? I can never decipher these things.
How come the YQ is so low at $137.90, when you have TG, LH and the long haul AC involved?

My status waives any AC YQ.

Taxes and fees are looking like a little over $400 USD per person, but I'll post a final count when I get home this weekend.
