Hi there,
Im traveling on BA from Dubai to Toronto (via LHR) but ive seen this flight also available from AC as a code-share. Does that mean i can ask them to put the miles on my Aeroplan? thanks in advance! |

You can only accumulate Aeroplan miles on a non-*A codeshare if it's booked as an Air Canada ticket. Even then, there may be some conditions involved.

Anyway, you will not earn Aeroplan miles for flights operated by BA. You earn AP miles for flying on AC and *A partners, with a few other very narrowly determined exceptions (TAM, EVA air, Avianca, Air Creebec, First Air). BA is definitely not an exception. If you have a FF account with a OW member, you can credit the BA-flown miles to that program if you like. |
So a flight from purchased on AC.com, say, YVR-LHR-CPT with an AC plane on the first leg and a BA plane on the second, will only earn you Star points on the YVR-LHR leg?
It's a question that I'd pondered myself many times, particularly as AC.com frequently doesn't offer options using LH and never offers SAA onward from Heathrow. |

Earning miles has everything to do with being on a flight that earns miles according to the T&C published at aeroplan.com. If they wanted to give you miles for BA flights, that's their business. AC.com only presents a subset of flights that AC is willing and able to sell you. If you called them on the phone I'm sure they would be happy to sell you a ticket that takes you to LHR and onward to CPT on SA. |

In this case would they waive the reservations fee, as that option was not available online?
Send me twenty-five bucks and I'll tell you. |

Send me twenty-five bucks and I'll tell you. And forgive my assumption that would know the answer to my question, seeing as you have spouted off with remarkable authority on many other matters. For 25 bucks, we sure get an awfully generous serving of your opinions. |

I don't know what you look like, but you sound like a blowhard. Forgive me the audacity to pose a question. On an internet forum. Filled with questions.

Actually, I don't know if they waive the fee when you can't make the booking online. |

A service fee of $25 CAD/USD is applied to any new booking or any change to an existing booking that could have otherwise been completed online. The service fee is per transaction per passenger, with a maximum fee of $100 CAD/USD per booking. The service fee is not applied to: Changes that cannot be made online Flight reservations to cities not available through aircanada.com General inquiries Website assistance It used to be that International reservations did not get a fee charged...not sure if this is still the case. |

By the letter of the AC law, it appears they could charge you a reservation fee if one didn't want to select an option (BA) that didn't yield status miles. If you input a flight to & from JNB the seemingly-obvious option of using LH isn't offered at all. There must be some behind-the-scenes alliance complications if AC finds it preferable to code-share with BA in favour of their Star partners. |
thanks for the reply guys...
its a shame, i would have loved the extra 14,000 miles, however its half the price than a standard united/lufthansa/or air canada ticket! |
