Does anyone out there have a list of the nexus codes printed on the cards from the machine (3 number entering canad and 2 characters entering US) and what they mean? For entering both the US and Canada?

I know the first letter indicates (R)esident or (V)isitor but not sure about the rest except for PG when entering the US (permission granted?)

I seem to remember "R" upon entering the US resulting in me getting a secondary screening by the US Customs at YYZ.

At the screening they verified documents, reason for travel etc. Happened twice to me so far.

I don't want to ruin the fun, but I'm not sure if information like these are considered classified... I just don't want anyone or even this forum get into trouble, especially with the government :)

I believe the code dictates if you go to secondary or not, although I have seen one individual coming into Canada where it said directly on the kiosk, go to immigration.

So who knows...

I think it's a 3 letter code entering the US as well. The US uses 2 codes for visitors, as far as I know... at least those are the only 2 that I've received. One that directs you to secondary, and the other lets you pass. Both start with V for visitor.

As for Canada, I remember reading it all depends on the first number on the kiosk receipt. That first number will dictate whether you're selected for a secondary by the system. For entering Canada, if you're over your personal exemption, you get a $ sign printed on your kiosk receipt, meaning you'll have to go to the cashier or secondary to pay any extra duties and taxes.

If it were considered classified, wouldn't they have to indicate that somewhere??

There's a reason it's called a "code". I am enjoying the guesses, though.

A Canadian going into the US who gets V-RR needs to go to secondary. It comes up so often for me that I just hold the card in the air and walk right into the screening area without going to the guy/gal who collects the customs cards.

V-IR gets the same treatment. Also, this is definitely not a top secret classified code, since the last time I was in secondary they had the list of them laminated and taped to the desk. The only one I could manage to make out was IR which was referring to a hit in some US border control/immigration system. Can't remember the exact abbreviation now, its been a while.

I was mainly curious of the Canadian 3 digit codes. I got sent to secondary yesterday with 8-3-7. I am sure I have had that before and did not get sent. I know for sure 5-x-x do not get sent, I have that almost every other time.

I'm not even guessing on the codes, except for that they are likely proprietary. Also, I think at least the Canadian ones can change by the day (or maybe day of week).

Also, in addition to the codes, can't the people collecting cards randomly send people to secondary? I have a feeling this has been done to me before - I know that I've had the same code when once sent to secondary, and another time when waved through.

That could be possible for the Canadian ones....the US ones are definitely a fixed list. I know because I've seen it. Only a glance though, not actually enough time to read through it and absorb anything.

Also, I've NEVER been flagged over with PG on my card heading state side, only when it shows IR (I haven't had anything besides PG or IR.)

Yep.

The Canadian codes are changed daily, but the numbering system has a meaning (i.e., -why- you got sent to secondary from the PIL).

I think it's smart - and prevents collusion of bringing shipped goods "over the border" into Canada

I believe "V-RR" is Random Referral [to secondary]

=aw

I do not use NEXUS and have crossed into the US 10 or 15 times in the past 6 years. I've never been told to do the extra screening.
And now hearing all you NEXUS folk getting this second screening it makes me wonder if I even want to get one.
