Same day change = Points Posting Incorrectly?

Hey all,

Wasn't sure exactly how to deal with this so I thought I'd ask here.. I was recently on a T+ round trip through the States and was originally doing YVR->YEG->YYZ but changed it (at the airport) to YVR->YOW->YYZ for the same day change fee ($50). Now that all of my flights have posted the YVR->YOW only posted as 552 miles and no status, and the YOW->YYZ only posted as 125 miles without status. What gives? I take it when the fellow at YVR rebooked my ticket he bumped those legs down to T but they clearly shouldn't have been. How would I go about getting this sorted out? Need those extra miles for my E this year!

Thanks :)

I may have a somewhat similar situation. C class ticket that involved a last leg between Canada and LHR. Bought when the class of service bonus was 50%. I changed this ticket after the rules changed and C class only get 25% and because the change involved an extra connection, ticket had to be reissued. Ended up only receiving 25%.

So far, also missing is a couple of legs on LH in C class, bought at the airport at the last minute early last week. I expect I'll need either of these two things to get me over 100,000 miles for the year. I would rather not invent an extra trip, feel like i had enough already. :D

So, I guess i'll need to call Aeroplan one of these days...

Call Aeroplan. When agents rebook you using the same day change, they just put you in the lowest available inventory and not necessarily the orignal fare type you booked.

In your case, you were re-booked on a Tango fare, even though you paid T+.

Others have reporting having this corrected by Aeroplan.

Which is correct. Miles issued is not based on ticket purchase/issue date. It is based on TRAVEL date. Aeroplan website very clearly states:

Flights between Canada and Europe
Executive First Lowest**: (C, Z)
** For travel between Canada and the UK earn 150% of miles until August 31st, 2008.

So doesn't matter if your ticket was issued 10 years ago or today, miles earned is based on travel date unless otherwise specified and rules are clearly stated above per Aeroplan's website.

Try give Aeroplan with your ticket number and explain the situation, they should be able to make an adjustment for you given you did pay for a T+ product.

Hmm... Yet another liberty with contract law then.

I think I actually used one of the "past travel" links here:

http://www.aircanada.com/en/customercare/index.html

I had a similar problem, and have heard this from others many times, that when re-booking the agents typically just put you in the lowest available fare class regardless of what you booked. Mine was a bit of insult to injury since it happened in combination with a missed connection/forced overnight in YUL due to a "communication error". The plane went to the wrong gate on the wrong side of the terminal and getting stuck there for a while. With the tight connection due to an already late departure I was going home that night.

Oh really? I am not a lawyer but there's nothing in the general conditions of carriage & tariffs that mentions this nor in the Aeroplan Terms and Conditions.

Only thing that matters when you are been credited miles is the actual ticket, you could have a full fare Y on your ticket however at the airport they could book you on a T with a same day change it doesn't change anything..your miles will and should reflect your actual eticket .

That is incorrect. Miles is based on actual flight flown + booking class.

But in contract law, a deal is a deal, done on the day it is consumated, i.e. when it's paid for. And the deal is not supposed to be changed unilaterally after that date.

And incidentally, any clause in a contract that would purport to allow one party to change the contract unilaterally would be deemed to be invalid in a court of law.

This brings us back for instance to flight passes, upgrades and J-2 availability which AC tried to change retroactively. One is not supposed to do these things. Even if the tariffs and/or aeroplan rules would state that they can change retroactively, such statements would be declared void in court and I would trust AC's lawyers to be quite aware of that. So, in effect, they are simply an attempt at intimidation. And yes, this is a game that lawyers do understant. :D

My daughter was booked in T+ from YQL to YYZ. The YYC-YYZ flight was cancelled so they rebooked her on a different flight. The miles only posted as if it was a T fare. I called Aeroplan and she was promptly credited with the correct miles. So follow Andrew's advice and the problem should be fixed.

Is my bolded part not the operative clause in your situation, assuming the reissue was done under the 25% COS bonus rule?

Thanks for the suggestions - I just called in (and spent 0 time on hold which was surprising) and they took care of it. There was a bit of a back and forth because I'd changed it and the reissued tickets were showing T but after a bit of work and insistence that I had the intinerary clearly showing it they eventually found the correct info in the fare rules somewhere.

Just wanted to let folks know. This was an easy one to fix..far less effort than I thought it would be (but about as much as it should be..)

Cheers!

Reissue is AC's internal cooking, not a change in the contract. No consideration, just a change in reservation, which was allowed in the original contract.
