A bit of full contact aviation at YVR today - link here

Passengers are being switched to different flights after one Air Canada plane hit another on the tarmac at YVR Sunday afternoon.

While being pushed back from the gate, an Air Canada Rouge Airbus A319’s wingtip “made contact” with the wing of a Jazz Air Canada Express Q400, which was parked at a nearby gate, an Air Canada spokesperson told CTV News in an email statement.

No travellers or ground staff were injured, the spokesperson said.

The Q400 was slated to travel to Nanaimo, and is currently still scheduled to take off Sunday—albeit with a three-hour delay.

Passengers on the A319 have been rebooked to a different plane—a Boeing 737—which is scheduled to depart for Quebec City at 6:15 p.m.

Was just telling my wife about this given we are flying AC in a couple of days. No impact on us as both legs are on widebodies and certainly not on Rouge.

Given a passenger refers to bits falling off wings of both aircraft, I wonder what the actual damage/repair time/cost may be? Given that there isn't an overabundance of aircraft, I'm guessing this may cause some knock-on disruptions.

Staff shortages, so will the tig operator as well as the wing guides get let go for causing an incident with multi million dollar equipment?

Just reading about this now, eye witness statements I take with a grain of salt. AC is challenged enough keeping things running as is, now two aircraft out of commission? I am sure they are working quickly to fix this, but they will need to yield to Transport Canada for thei investigation.

With a very publicly stated pilot shortage at Jazz, I'm not convinced losing a Jazz aircraft is going to affect them much.

Given how aggressively they're hiring mainline pilots, I'd also bet there's a bit of a pilot shortage there. I'd be a lot more concerned with two pilots colliding into each other in the concourse than I would be with two aircraft.

We've got a few Q's in storage. One will likely be activated to replace the damaged one.

Not seen this one either:

https://www.aviation24.be/airlines/p...m-to-brussels/

They don't seem to know if the passenger died on the flight from YUL or YYZ.

Reminds of a story from a coworker about an international flight he was flying on the gone but not missed Jet Airways ex-DEL. Apparently someone died and they ended up moving people out of a row in the rear of the plane and lying the body there. Punch line: you know your airline status sucks when you get bumped out of your seat for a dead body ;-)

Extra flight to HKG today.
AC21 has been at 12,000' since Bowen Island.
It flew by my house about the same time as a flash of lightning was in the area.
per avherald:

...lost a cabin air compressor and the packs on the left hand side as result of the lightning strike & dumped fuel.

The aircraft C-FGDX is still on the ground in Vancouver on Sep 8th 2023 - 10 days after the occurrence.

Most tracked flight on FR24 at the moment.

Judging by the descent profile, looks like a pressurization issue.

They also squawked 7700 immediately before they started their rapid descent ... so yeah, I would say that's consistent with a pressure related emergency.

AC990 October 13, 2023

AC990 from MEX to YYZ had a full pressurization failure about 45 minutes after departure. Oxygen Masks dropped and the aircraft did an emergency descent to 8,000 Ft. The flight ultimately diverted to IAH. First time this has ever happened to me.

Wow, made it all the way up to FL250 and then right back down. Must have been 'exciting' - glad to see y'all made it down okay.

Not sure this was the excitement I was looking for.

The 737Max has a recording that says something like: this is an emergency, please put on your mask and breathe normally. It repeats constantly every 30 seconds or so and went on for 20 minutes.

The funny thing is that the masks had long since stopped delivering oxygen but the recording kept on playing.

BTW - the bag did not inflate
