Not sure of staffing deficiencies at other stations, but YVR is at least 40 ground handling staff short of their required numbers at the moment. It's impossible to speak to this particular delay, but many delays from YVR are related to airline turn performance as discussed in the OTP thread. It's tough to turn a plane in the assigned timeframe when it waits 15-20 minutes to taxi the final few metres to the gate due to a lack of available crews.

The AC CEO spent yesterday at YVR, in which he observed the challenges AC's staffing crunch is placing upon wider airport operations, within and outside the terminal.

I would assume this genius received a lifetime ban from AC as his parting gift after deplaning.

Incident: Canada B763 at Halifax on Mar 4th 2019, runway excursion upon vacating the runway

By Simon Hradecky, created Tuesday, Mar 5th 2019 15:29Z, last updated Tuesday, Mar 5th 2019 16:01Z

An Air Canada Boeing 767-300, registration C-FTCA performing flight AC-614 from Toronto,ON to Halifax,NS (Canada) with 211 people on board, landed on Halifax's runway 23 at 18:30L (22:30Z) after performing a CAT II ILS approach. ATC had advised that taxiway C and B had not been cleared and were not usable and instructed the flight to vacate the runway via taxiway A at the end of the runway. Subsequently tower advised the end of the runway was "very slippery". About 2570 meters down the runway the aircraft turned too early and came to a stop in a snow bank short of taxiway B. The passengers disembarked onto the runway via stairs and were taken to the terminal.

Ground services reported the runway was 100% ice, the chemical truck had just broken down while trying to spray the runway, "not looking good".

A preceding landing reported the braking action was "very poor".

The aerodrome was closed for about 4 hours as result.

The Canadian TSB have dispatched a team of investigators on site.

The airline reported the aircraft could not taxi to the apron because of poor weather conditions. The aircraft was inspected by maintenance and towed to the apron.

Flight Aware is showing total travel time as 18h 5m

Assuming the delay in KEF was 3+ hours, how does this work with crew timing out?

You would think they must be working under a waiver, or had a full relief crew onboard, given all the BOM/DEL issues this week.

On a related topic, I think AC45 set the record for longest AC flight today. 9:41 from DEL to CPH, 1:53 on the ground for fuel and crew change, and 8:52 for CPH to YVR. Total of 19 hours, 26 minutes. I really hope they disembarked everyone in CPH, but I doubt it...

"FO Seat Issue"?

Has stay flat seating propagated to the cockpit?

What a radical concept.

The logistics would be mind boggling.
Many airlines allow their premium cabin passengers to pre-order their meals several weeks before the flight.
Air Canada is not one of them.

I think it's much more likely a typo.

It wouldn't even be the only typo in that message.

It's not. First Officer seat issue. For any but crew seats, the airline would simply block it off, re-accomodate the affected passenger, and depart. The costs associated with such delays far outweigh the loss of revenue from any passenger seat on board.

What are the other typos?

AC158 Mar7th is FIN 638 - Plane skidded off runway @ YHZ

The Mrs and I are scheduled to fly out tonight (March 7) on AC158 but its been delayed from 00:30 to 01:35. As the flight was a B767-300ER and AC only has one or two left in the mainline fleet I was curious. Sure enough its FIN 638, the same aircraft that skidded off the runway in Halifax a couple of days ago. Its already scheduled late, thirteen hours before departure, so to be proactive and avoid missing our MCO connection we switched and are flying out of YEG at the same time!

Kind of funny that it's the same aircraft, but when you are down to a couple it's not hard to keep track of them, lol
