Right and Mr. Peever asked the same questions...frequently.

As for non-scary posts that might be semi-newsy, there isn't another thread for things like fender-benders at YYZ or windy what-nots at YYT.

For some FOTSGs this is scary enough. And YWG and YYT are both in Canada right? They must be close to each other.

AC flight nose-wheel separates from landing gear, again

Air Canada flight evacuated after landing gear problem at Calgary airport, safety board says CBC News

"The Transportation Safety Board says no one was injured when an Air Canada Express flight was evacuated after a landing gear malfunction at Calgary's airport.

Safety board spokeswoman Julie Leroux says flight 7228 operated by Air Georgian Ltd. was travelling to Calgary from Cranbrook, B.C., on Monday night.

Leroux says that upon touchdown, the nose wheel separated from the landing gear on the Beech 1900D passenger plane.

She says the gear did not collapse and no one was injured in the landing but everyone was ushered out onto the runway.

Damage to the plane was limited to the nose landing gear and Leroux says the board has sent two staff to investigate.

Air Canada could not immediately be reached for comment.

A similar incident with the same type of aircraft happened in Calgary in 2016."

Fun. I take this route semi frequently. I may re-evaluate that...

Very happy that everyone is OK. Well, at least physically OK.

Halifax Fire and Emergency Services were called to the Halifax Stanfield International Airport at 3:33 p.m. after crew members reported the plane's landing gear wasn't descending properly.

"I guess there was some damage to the underside of the plane. It was a fairly rough landing."

Halifax airport spokesperson Theresa Rath Spicer said the plane landed safely at 3:45 p.m.

"However, it has to be inspected for potential damage and as a result of that, the aircraft has to be towed from the runway."

I believe it was actually a medium-quasi-softish-heavy-hurry-hard landing.

  • Blown tire/wheel failure

Occurrence SummaryDate:2018-04-20Narrative:An Air Canada Airbus A320 (ACA1219) from Orlando, FL (KMCO) to Halifax/Stanfield, NS (CYHZ) declared an emergency on final at CYHZ with a gear issue. The aircraft lowered its landing gear manually and landed safely on Runway 32 at 1835Z. Left main gear, tire blown, aircraft was being towed to apron prior to having passengers disembark. Date:2018-04-25Narrative:UPDATE TSB Report #A18A0030 : C-FTJR, an Airbus 320-200 aircraft operated by Air Canada, was conducting flight ACA1219 from Orlando Intl, FL (KMCO) to Halifax/Stanfield Intl, NS (CYHZ). During the climb to cruising altitude after the departure from KMCO, the flight crew heard a thump from the belly as the aircraft climbed through FL240. Since no abnormal indications were noted on the flight deck, the flight continued to destination. When the landing gear was selected down on the approach to CYHZ, there was no response. The flight crew declared an emergency, executed a missed approach and performed a manual extension of the landing gear. The aircraft landed normally and the aircraft was brought to a full stop on the runway as the nose wheel steering is disabled in manual extension. The operator’s maintenance was called to tow the aircraft to the gate and observed that one of the left main tires was flat. Additionally, damage to the landing gear doors was observed. The tire had exploded in the climb causing the noise and damage to the landing gear doors. The tire is being analyzed to determine the cause.

A little over the top, but to the general public, it does highlight some of AC's serious safety shortcomings.

It’s been posted before... it could relate to YWG so it might be in this thread, or it may be in its own. But we’ve definitely discussed that report about how Canadian rules affect Canadian airline pilots on at least a couple different occasions.

Mods, can we please change the thread title, dropping the Winnipeg reference, per forum rules?

I can't tell you how many times I ignored this thread, thinking how people must have really had a beef or been traumatized by the Winnipeg incident.

As well, it may be that many incidents can simply be logged and eventually merged into this thread, however it does make sense to let new incidents have their airing and chance for discussion before being effectively archived.

Thanks!
