RTW mileage point assignment
 

I usually log 25-35,000 miles a year on my mileage plan, and the points have accumulated pretty well on NWA and then AC, allowing for some nice trips and upgrades. I've found it's easier to use my points for trips booked out of my home in Tokyo, where the number of members competing for the available seats is not so great as from other North American cities.

That said, if I'm going to tally an extra 30,000 miles in business class on an RTW trip, I'd better look at which *A carrier it might be better to log all those miles with, on top of the usual accumulation with my usual carrier. Since it's not enough to earn any status in a competing carrier's plan, should I pick one that goes some rare or far away place I always wanted to go for free (like Perth or Capetown on SQ) or focus on one airline with many choices out of my usual hub i.e. ANA?

You may very well earn more than 30,000 miles for a RTW trip, when you factor in COS bonus status miles. This could put you very close to (or over the threshold for) Gold status, depending on which FF program you choose.

Remember as well that with LH you would get 100% cos bonus- for a total of 200% miles flown- so the miles total would be double- also giving you FTL status. Just an idea.

Have a look at BMI's plan closely. It is a bit convoluted and getting to the initial holy grail is a meandering road. Once there, the mileage earning in higher fare classes is excellent.
