MR from YVR

Well it looks as though I'm going to come in at 92K miles by the end of the year and the time has come to strategize for a MR that provides for a night or two of entertainment rather than just spending part of a lifetime in the air again. EX YVR, my best options appear to be LHR, FRA and TKO all of which come in around $950. Any other suggestions that would give me about 8K Q-miles?

I'm new at this so hopefully this will help as I'm not entirely sure what Q miles are.

You could fly to HKG that will get you around 12K miles. You should be able to get it all in for around $980 for flights upto the end of November.

The closer-by Tokyo would also do the job at 4700mi each way.

You may need a Visa even if transiting. I would check.

if you think you'll fly to shanghai or hk or beijing 3 times in the next 12 months you could get the $2550 air canada asia pass which gives full status miles.

I would agree if it weren't for the fact that these passes do not allow upgrades irrespective of the FF status or the type of coupon. That, alone, rules out this option but thanks for the suggestion.

If you don't need to stick to AC, there are options that will give you more Q miles for around the same price.

Consider this itin on US:
16NOV
YVR-PHX-CLT-FRA
depart 7:44am, arrive 10:35am+

19NOV
FRA-CLT-PHX-YVR
depart: 11:45am, arrive 11:21pm

C$992 all in, 14764 Q miles

You could cut a night out of FRA for around $75 more on this particular weekend or go to LGW for about $100 more as well. Connections are comfortable with the exception of the last one in PHX (about 40 minutes).

If you have the time and don't want to slug it out in AC Y, another option is to do SEA-ORD-MCO-ORD-SEA in First on United for about $1100 and 8176 status miles, or through LAX for 9514 miles.

Would OP prefer longer-haul international flights without as many connections as transborder runs? That might tilt the scales in one direction.
