763's vs. 767's someone explain the differences

Can someone explain the differences in 763's to the 767's and the many different configurations within these models.

I hear domestic configuration and old CP planes etc etc. Someone enlighten me on what this all means as I'm at a loss trying to figure out all the different configurations of this plane.

763 = 767-300 767 = 767-200

The 300 is longer by around 20 feet.

All the 767-200's I have been on are 2-2-2 in business class - and don't recline much

The 767-300s are a mixed lot, There are at least:

XM version 1-1-1 with lie-flat seats at an angle and On-Demand Video

International version with 1-2-2
International Version with 2-2-1

Lots of leg room and recline, not close to lie flat though. Only regular video, though on international flights they had out personal DVD players.

Domestic version with 2-2-2

In the back of the bus - economy - they are all 2-3-2 with the Ex-Canadian ones with blue upholstery having my vote for the roomiest, most comfortable seat.

There are at least 4 different seat variations in economy and which one you get is pretty much luck - until thay are all XM'ed and have the mediocre new seats.

Actually there are some 763 Intl' non XMed that have a fold out video screen, I was just on one YVR-YYZ

I stand corrected on the Video

There are more versions of this that I thought, but you really can't tell what you are getting until you get on the plane.

You might in theory find out which FIN number is assigned to a flight for a particular day, butthese are only done a day or so in advance and might change at the last moment.

Actually, in terms of the video in the front cabin (and maybe more), you can determine which you'll have solely based on the seating chart. AFAIK, 2-2-1 a/c are DVD-players, and 1-2-2 are TV's. Having said that, some versions of the 2-2-1 (or is it 1-2-2) also have in-seat power. If you know what to expect with each varying version of the J layout, you can thus determine what you'll be getting beforehand.

I was recently on a 2-2-1 going over to EU and a 1-2-2 coming back and it was a DVD player in both cases.

My sometimes foggy memory thinks it's the other way around.

Ex-CPs didn't have inseat video screens (1-2-2), ex-AC did (2-2-1). Ex-CPs have bin at the right side of the 1 seat, ex-ACs don't. 767s are all series 200s and domestically configured. 763s are 300 series and include a couple of domestic configurations but are certified for over-ocean flights.

Surely Geko has been around long enough to have read the many threads that have discussed these matters but I guess the air gets thin when you're up at 30K every other day...

My thoughts exactly.

No response to Shareholder.

I'm questioning the 763's and 767's configurations because I have flights on saturday scheduled on both of these planes and I have seats 3 H,K booked but noticed on the 763's there are no H,K together. Can someone explain?

Just remember that there are no DVD players on domestic flights (YYZ-YVR) regardless of configuration.

You don't say....that happened on my way back from FRA-YUL-YVR (on the domestic portion).....I arrived in YUL at gate A51, on fin 689, in seats 3AC, only to take off from gate A51, on fin 689, in seats 3AC (after having to go through customs and claim/recheck baggage..sigh). On the trip over, I had like 10mins left in the movie I was watching (when I had to hand back the player for landing), and when I got on the plane for the second time, they wouldn't let me finish the movie.

On that note, though, why doesn't AC distribute the DVD players for 5hr transcons?! UA/NZ/++ does, even for 2hr flights! Why won't AC do it? It's not like it costs them anything...the players are just sitting there, on the bins...why not distribute them!? What's the mentality behind it?

Must be an efficiency thing that one of the six sigma black belts came up with

Information on the different configurations in the AC fleet is covered in this sticky thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showp...14&postcount=5

To better assist yourself and other FT members searching for similar information in the future, please use the sticky thread for information of this type.
