So does a CIBC AEROGOLD VISA miles credit (back in Feb 07) count as an activity on the account in a year (so one purchase on the Visa card would stop miles expiring??) with their new policy starting tomorrow :(
It should. Doesn't have to be a flight or purchase. And if it occured 5 months ago, then that would be within the annual calendar year measure used for elite status consideration. And if AE is applying this to a rolling year (i.e. from the date of your last transaction), then at least once in every 12-month period after that one appeared there needs to be a transaction to keep the account alive.

How so? They send me a bill every month, I make an online banking bill payment to them monthly. Simple enough. And, they process the 3.9% balance transfer cheques well.
Long story which stems back to some promotional stuff they were doing last year.
