Question about Bumping on AC
I am confirmed on an AC flight (booked on UA.com as a codeshare) from YUL-DCA, just prior to a major holiday in Quebec. (AC metal/UA flight number).
I don't know how the flight is selling - but I assume it's overbooked. Before I volunteer to give up my seat (it's the last flight of the night), I have some questions: 1. How does AC's VDB process work? I know that US law requires compensation for being bumped, but does Canadian law? 2. What should I expect (if anything) from AC, if I volunteer to be bumped? I know they'd have to offer me overnight accoms because it's the last flight of the night - but how much (if anything) do they usually compensate? Is it cash or vouchers? I tried to find this information on Canada's equivalent of the Department of Transportation, and on the AC website, but was unsuccessful. Any other helpful information would be greatly appreciated. |
I know the US$ is tanking, but is this how you intend to earn some valuable C$s? There is no government regs in this regard. The AC gate agent would utlimately determine if they need volunteers or not and is the one to approach. For the most part, voluntary compensation is with MCOs not cash, and a seat on the next flight out. My question is: Don't you have anything better to do with your life?

Note that as this is a codeshare ticket bearing a UA flight #, UA's tariffs apply. On a related note, it appears that recent CTA Ruling 268-C-A-2007 will require airlines to make their tariffs available on their websites. |
Why are you lazy? There is a search function, in case you did not know it exists in your 3 years on FT.

Mudd-Stuffin, grow up
While Mudd_Stuffin is of course quite right about the availability of the search function on this Board, the tone of self-appointed exasperated proprietorship with which he deals with the OP's query is one that makes reading this Board often so tedious !
In any event, those of us not so gifted, nor so freighted with a high view of responsibility as Master Stuffin, quite like having subjects recur on this Board, regardless of their having been dealt with over the last three years; lacking his capacious memory and knowledge of all things good, we benefit from repetition - it's how we learn ! (and besides, God forbid, new ideas surface - in this case, get a life, Mudd !!! and don't post at all if you can't treat others' foibles and queries with respect.) |

At a minimum, issues which have been dealt with recently should not be started in a new thread. Starting new threads like the OP did makes things "tedious" to read, as you put it. What "high view of responsibility" are you talking about? Here is another post on the subject, since you like to clog up the board with useless posts and read recurring things. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showt...enied+boarding Of course, your post which added absolutely no insight into the subject, makes the board even harder to read. So speak for yourself. |
As we are all aware, sometimes the search function works well, and sometimes it does not.
Attacking your fellow FT posters does not work well in any situation. The original question has been answered. I am going to close this thread lest it degenerate further, and until we have some time to consider any moderation that needs to take place. Simon |

The MCO would most likely be 200CAD. |
