J on 30 seat 763 - downguage to 24/25 seat?

Wife and I are scheduled to fly AC877 on June 21 from FRA to YYZ in J (on AE award ticket). A/C is currently scheduled as 30 seat 763 with all J seats already sold (seat map showed all 30 seats occupied). What happens if the aircraft is downguaged to a 25 seater or XM 24 seat? Has AC really only sold 24 seats on this flight?

Obviously, I don't want to fly in Y and am considering calling AE to try and switch to the flight in June 22. Any suggestions on how to deal with this possibility?

Thanks!

AC sells a maximum of 25 J seats (assuming no need for crew rest seats) on 763's even if they've scheduled a 30-seat aircraft. The last five seats on a 30-seat layout always show as "occupied".

You will be fine.

What about a 333? I'm confirmed "I" for a LHR-YYZ flight (it is still showing lots of seats, but it isn't until July).

The 333 has 42 J seats, so if the plane is changed we are definitely going to go down to a lower number of seats. I'm only Prestige, so I assume I'd be the first to lose my seat. Is that correct?

If you can get confirmed seating in rows 1-5,it helps when downgauges happen.

Thanks for the advice. It makes sense, since those seats would also be on the downgauged planes. I'm in seat row 5 now (seat guru said it was a good seat).

Well, first of all, it is impossible to tell the number of "seats already sold" from a seat map. As The Lev already mentioned, all seats in the last row of the C cabin are blocked. Also, 3 seats (1D, 1F, 3F) are currently available for assignment:

When they sked a 30J a/c for an INTL route and are only selling it as 24J, which seat other than row 6 do they block off?

You never really know for sure until you get on the plane, but I always insist that I have a confirmed seat assignment, otherwise it is just a vague promise of carraige.

If you had confirmed seats, I'd bet that you were OK. Also you might consider booking on the earlier flight because the 333 has more J seats, and if something were to happen, you still have a fall back at 10PM
