SWUC - how does it work?

I am booking a flight to HKG or PVG and I have two SWU, if I reserve the Y, M, or U fare, can anyone tell me if I can get upgraded at the time I make the reservation or is it done later and I will have to take a chance?

Thaks

I'll assume SWU coupon ... (?) If you book on ac.com and have an upgradable fare, you will be able to confirm your upgrade provided I space is available.

Yes I made Prestige and my friend is E and I tried going through the booking on Ac but didn't see an option where it allows me to upgrade.

Does anyone know?

So long as their is I class availibility then you can upgrade on Y/M at time of booking.

It's best to handle this through AC reservation. There is no service charge if you are buying a Y/M/U fare.

Ask if there is any upgrade seat available on the flight and date that you want to travel. If there is, ask the agent to book the flight in Y or M and do the upgrade at the same time. You need to issue the ticket right away though. You are not allowed to "hold" the reservation without issuing the ticket.

I will give this a try.

My friend has SSWU, does it work the same way if he book the cheap fare? or is it better to pay the y/m fare and get guarantee upgrade?

Once you book, an "upgrade" option will show up in your bookings view on ac.com (again, provided there is I space). If you give us flight details we can verify I space for you.

AC15 (non-stop) has I0, you'll have to be wait listed and being Prestige you're most likely out of luck.

AC7 out of YVR is also showing IO, sorry.

Presently on-line upgrade request is available only for booking of single passenger and the reservation must be booked at www.aircanada.ca.

You have to complete the entire booking process to purchase a ticket on either Y, M or U. Then retrieve your reservation using your Booking Reference No. to upgrade.

Only Y, M or U fare allow you to request an upgrade at time of reservation. If your friend is using a cheaper but upgradeable fare, he will only be able to request an upgrade at 4 days before the departure date. 2 days for Prestige and 7 days for SE.

Even though you are AP Prestige, you should really piggy-back off your AP Elite friend as his/her "companion" - Elite members get higher priority on the waiting list and the 4-day window (instead of your 2-day).

Btw, not that many people care, but you say your are Elite when your FT profile is Prestige

Sorry, Elite last year, not this year, let me change it.
