4+ hour delay

Just a quick question. After surviving a delay of 4+ hours this morning from YYZ to LGA I am now waiting at LGA because the return flights is delayed by 2 hours.
What is ACs compensation policy for those kind of delays? I missed important meetings and had lots of trouble and cost because of this (buy food, limo waiting for hours etc.)
Thanks!

Not sure what flight you're on this morning but return flight from LGA is delayed due to weather in Toronto, there won't be any compensation for uncontrollable delays (weather).

I was delayed in YYZ on Feb 26th for 14 hours. Took advantage of Flight delay coverage on My CIBC Aerogold. Got a room at the IC on Bloor. Had a much-needed shower after the SFO-YYZ Redeye, followed by a 5 hour nap. Did some work. Had an awesome meal in the hotel restaurant.

They provide up to $500 for living expenses. $100 for cab fare. $100 for entertainment expenses. Called in to make my claim, was told a cheque would be sent out 10 days after they receive my receipts...

Welcome to a North American winter. If you hadn't noticed, the midwest has been wracked by tornados and other extraordinary storms and a major snow storm has moved into southwestern/central Ontario and the midwest states around lakes Erie and Ontario. The entire airline system has ground to a crawl, if not a stop. Perhaps you might know of a way to challenge the wrath of the lord and keep flights on schedule and safe, but that knowledge hasn't been passed along to the mere mortals who have run our airlines and airports since commercial aviation started up... Chill out man, and enjoy the delights of the LGA RCC...

Or, to put it more succinctly... manure happens

I agree with Shareholder. I was booked on IAD-YYZ today but it got cancelled. I was rebooked at the last minute on DCA-YYZ so I hurried to DCA just to find out the flight had been cancelled 45 minute before deparure . I was upset but polite while at DCA and the agent booked me on 2 flights back - one was a connection through CMH, the other was the next day. Luckily, I decided later to pass on the CHM connection since the flight to CMH went ahead but the flight to YYZ was cancelled. I have a reserved seat on a flight tomorrow and would actually prefer that rather than deal with the mess at YYZ tonight. I realize weather happens in YYZ and don't expect anything in return - I'm just happy to be going home tomorrow (hopefully :)) - stuff happens

...
Flight back was good - they managed to turn a full plane both ways in 30 minutes to hear back to YYZ. Kudos to the AC and ground staff.

The 4 hour delay in the morning (AC702) was due to a mechanical problem with the aircraft, not because of the weather. I missed some very important meetings because of this.
The evening flight back to YYZ was delayed because of the weather and I knew that this could have happened when I booked the flight and saw the weather warning. So I am not complaining about that. Just wanted to check what the policy is for delays over 4 hours which were caused by AC.
By the way, I wish I could have enjoyed "the delights" of the LGA RCC a bit longer because they closed at 8pm so they kicked everyone out.

Sorry to hear about your problem. But do you know the mechanical problem wasn't caused by the wx?

I tried to look for the details on this on the Aerogold Visa online site but was unable to find it.

Do you have a link please?

I'm an Aerogold cardholder and CIBC sent out a detailed and updated packet of brochures outlining the insurance benefits with my last statement.

Among the "enhancements": 5 CAD fee for all international ATM withdrawals.

I am in the same boat, and didn't seem to get that package with my last statement. I will call them.

Here we go:

www.cibc.com/ca/pdf/visa/flight-delay-ins-en.pdf

Appears to include "inclement weather"? Wow!

Wish I knew about this. Stay at decent hotels AND get points when getting caught in delays.

Has anyone successfully filed a claim using this? I noticed the updated terms and conditions brochure in my last statement but wondered how convoluted making a claim would actually be. They seem to require some documentation from the airline about the nature of the delay as well as receipts etc.

I never did on my CIBC or my Amex card. But I had a couple of claims on my old DC/EnRoute card. They did ask for a letter from the airline confirming the delay/cancellation, and indicating the motive of the delay. And if not weather, they would approach the airline to get the airline's share.
