Agreed. I'd think twice using a SSWU on family, let alone a stranger! SSWU has significant $ value.
However, there is a poster on another thread who may well have gladly used his SSWU to ensure a fine lady got to sit next to him so he does not need to rely on op-ups to get "barbies" into the front cabin! :D http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showp...7&postcount=35 |
Can you still buy upgrades from AC ?
 I am sure there is probably a thread on this somewhere, but I could not find it. Other than a select number of Canada to U.S. or Rapidair routes (where certs can be purchased) is there a way to purchase upgrades from AC for travel within Canada (North American or SW ?)

Thanks ZORN for the link - I found this also. I was wondering if other U/G certs were available for purchase. I guess the anwser is no ?
These certs are only good on select routes - none of which I fly:eek: |
One question on receiving those upgrades from threshold (the 20K miles, 40K, etc...) Are they retroactive? I'm likely to hit elite by the end of July. Would they give me those upgrades "due" from 20K miles, or do they only look at mileage earned after you've earned status? I'm looking at a trip to SA, and latitude fares are only slightly ($300) more than Tango+, so they'd be perfect to use an SWU from my understanding of the system. I'd be basically buying executive class for $300.

Checking the June 30 date for a minute, the 7'ish flight is AC 862 - the flight is not showing any J at all.
This may be an older 762 which they are selling as entirely Y. Rows 1-4 (I believe) of this plane are available to tier members only. There may be a chance you can sit up there if your booking reference is tagged to someone here on FT who is a tier member and is on the same flight.. If the veterans on this board were to plan on using an UG certificate to go to LHR on this date, I highly doubt they would book AC 862. Consider booking AC 856 or AC 848. |

No, you don't get certs for thresholds which you crossed before you got status.
