Refurb release speculation...

It has been a while since we heard any updates on the refurb (www.achorizons.ca).

Fin 238 was last updated on May 29 and at that point had been in the shop for 35 days. Now we are up to 50 days and counting.

Fin 636 was last updated on Jun 1 and our best guess is that it entered the hangar on that day (or perhaps a few days before). For arguments sake let's say it entered on Jun 1.

What are your best guesses as to how long it will take for 238 to emerge, and also 636. I think 238 will re-enter service between Jun 20 and 22 (no real reason why, just a guess) and that 636 wont be back until July 15 at the absolute earliest...

Anyone else want to take a stab at this guessing game?

One 320 maybe out of the hangar either today or tomorrow and the first 767 is well into it's retrofit.

what makes you think it will be out of the hangar today or tomorrow? inside info? I may get the STOC number when I go into work tonight and give them a call to end the speculation, but until then, I am stuck guessing...

Even if it exits the hangar today or tomorrow, we are at 50ish days... sure its the first one, but with them hoping to have all the 320s done by Dec 2006, they better get moving a little quicker.

The 767 was probably in a few days before that page was created, since if you look at the 320 pics, it took a couple days to strip it down to the same point as the 767 is in the bottom pic.

I wonder what made the refurb be so slow. At that rythm, it will take years before every plane is refurbished... Wait a minute: 1 month per A32X * 100 frames = 8 years (take one, add one) for the narrowbodies

I understand that things will go quicker once they have had a few done, but c'mon...

Probably certification of the new IFE system that is being installed. Once the system is certified on a specific aircraft, the installations will be much quicker (if that's the delay).

AC listed the separate A32X variants under differing refurb timelines... only the 320s are getting done now, and IIRC the 319s next, and the 321s last (apr07-May07).

SFO - YYZ on September 5 ... New J seats???

I will be flying SFO - YYZ on September 5 on a 320 in J... How can I find out if the aircraft will have the new seats? AC does not know... How is that possible? It looks like it's taking much longer than what was originaly planned... How many are they going to be doing at the same time in order to complete everything by December?

Has anybody experienced them yet? The previous ones were not so bad for transborder flights...IMO The IFE weas missing...

If anybody gets info, please post it... It might help for routing choices... This forum is very helpful!

Thanks!

Thanks!

Even if you knew the fins that were refurb'd by the time you were going to take this flight, you'll only be able to find out on the date of departure what fin you'll probably actually be on. Heck, fin #'s aside, even the designated metal type can change on the day of, or even a couple of days in advance... there have been a zillion times where I book to sit on a 320 but it ends up being a 319, or a 321 becomes 320, or a 763 becomes a 762, etc...

Thanks for the info... I guess what I wanted to know is how many will be refurbed by September... Just to get an idea of the chances...

Thanks!

Well, one that we know of. Maybe another. Maybe 3 or 4 more.

When asked a question, they're taught to say, "What's really the issue here ..." and then a roll out a message that doesn't answer the question. :D
