Getting from TO to Buffalo?
 

YVRSALES. may need to get herself to BUF for a Jet Blue flight. How are you folks down east doing that these days?

This is all I can think of other than Greyhound from Downtown. It would likely be some kind of connection along the way.

Greyhound bus I paid $20 for one-way 2 weeks ago. Might be a little more last-minute.

Then you can take a local bus (depending on the time) for USD $1.50 from the Bus station right to the airport (no transfers). The 24 or 204 Express will take you there. Go to http://www.nfta.com/metro/trip_planner.asp for schedule & fare info, then put "From" Metro Transportation Centre Buffalo to Buffalo Niagara Int'l Airport. There are also some shuttles that will take you for $10 that can probably be found on the Airport website. Cabs in Buffalo are expensive - it's only a 10 to 15-minute cab ride but will cost close to $30

There are buses every hour from the Dundas and Bay depot. These alternative between GRAYHOUND and TRAILWAYS and a local firm. It's a pooled service so doesn't really matter who you book it with. US INS will require a round trip ticket -- you can cash in the return at the depot. From the downtown Buffalo depot, its a $30 cab ride to the airport, or a $1.50 city bus ride.

Expect an hour to be processed at the border. You must get off the bus with your carry-on, then await the dog to sniff you out, and after that each person is interviewed and entry granted, or not.

It is non-stop to Niagara Falls where most people get off -- during tourist season at least -- and then on to Erie and the Peace Bridge crossing. About two hours to the bridge from downtown Toronto with the Niagara stop.

VIA also runs a daily train leaving Toronto Union Station at 8:30a and rolling into Buffalo station -- nearby bus depot -- at 1:10p. Again, you must generally buy a return ticket.

As an alternative to a bus, one of the Buffalo limo services offers a town car service that will pick you up at Pearson and take you straight to Buffalo to a location of your choice. It costs $175 US (not including gratuity, tolls or fuel surcharge) one way, or $225 all inclusive. PM me if you'd like the company details, as I understand links to companies are discouraged. I'm in no way connected with the company, by the way, just have used them a lot!

I've taken the Niagara Air Bus service before, and the price is good, but I can't recommend anything else about it. The last thing you need when you've got a flight to catch in Toronto is the bus stopping at every hotel around Niagara Falls to let the senior citizens on ;)

Hertz will rent cars one way from YYZ to BUF. Total cost was around $100.

Shop around for rental cars. I've never paid more than about $75 CAD for a one-way YYZ-BUF rental.

Just a word of caution about traffic jams on the QEW westbound on weekday afternoons and early evenings.

I've been to Buffalo a few times to see the Leafs and Sabres play and it has always taken me 2h 30 m or more to make it to the Canadian side of the bridge (Lewiston or Rainbow are my favourites) from the west end of Toronto. Granted, most of the games I have been to have been on Friday nights but I'm not sure it is much better on Mon-Thurs.

It can be slow all the way from downtown TO to Burlington. It usually picks up at the Burlington Skyway, but don't expect to be doing 120 (not that you would, as it is - of course - over the speed limit...). Speaking of that, my best time was very early one summer Saturday morning: High Park to the US border crossing on the Lewiston Bridge in 62 minutes. Not too many people on the road that morning.

Very true..the traffic on the QEW west of 403 and just past ford drive in oakville is horrendous in th afternoons after about 3PM.

Now if one rents a car and takes the 407 to the QEW merge at Burlington/Hamilton you can cut some time.........but I think rental cars are charged exorbitant fees by the rental car companies for the 407 charges.

Renting a car from YYZ incurs a 15% Concession Fee which does not apply if one rents from a downtown or suburban location. PLease be sure 2 check all options perhaps via Travelocity, where if one clicks in via AmtrakGR Mall, one will earn 2 AGR points per US$ spent. :)

Oakville has the worst traffic on the QEW... there is a problem expanding a bridge over 16 mile creek.... the "Oakvilleites" are worried about fish habitat. :mad:

Its been resolved and pre construction operations are underway including the purchase of several houses on the north side of the Highway. The cemetary issue has been resolved through this purchase. Several interchanges have been redone with others underway to facilitate the widening. Bronte and Kerr bridges are the real bottlenecks that have been resolved.
