Biggest fear

I have to ask others, as I'm curious to know. I don't think there is anything that bothers me more about flying than the thought of some serious GI distress on a long flight, or any flight for that matter. :) Close proximity doesn't help, and the lavs, I mean come on, do I need to say it out loud?

As they say sh*t happens. I've only gotten sick once, naturally on an LAX-SYD flight in Y  . It was awful, but it's not something I worry about when I fly.

When I first started becoming a FF, I had lots of "traveller's diarrhea" (from all the stresses of the unfamiliar and unknown)... :o so ever since I've always packed a set of Imodium pills when flying :D

I now have that in my bag that goes everywhere with me after my very first experience to DEL. I flew DEL-LHR, eat something bad just before my flight that night. My only solution was to avoid eating/drinking anything, nothing goes in, nothing comes out. So for about 10+ hours I eat/drank aboslutely nothing until I could get to Boots at LHR. :) I fear having to use the lav for those types of things, how good is that suction? :p

I wouldn't just fear using the lav for those types of things, but even getting to the lav in time would be a problem as it is involuntary :D

I have felt dodgy on a few trips, and felt VERY glad to have NOT had to make the dash up the aisle, so to speak. Now have a thought for the poor souls with Crohn's Disease. You live your entire life with that reality. A normal life, including air travel is virtually impossible.

Yah, I can't imagine that. I'd certainly refrain from eating before and during a flight. That could be pretty unhealthy for any long flights though.

hahahah, true, and if there's a line up especially on the long haul flights, you'd certainly have to explain your situation to everyone standing there. I'm sure they'd love that, and quickly stand in line for a different lav too. :) I just fear having to take care of 'that' type of business on a plane, period.

Thanks for bringing back some very very bad memories. :)

Getting sick probably wasn't much fun, either.

Same for many type 2 diabetics. There is one medication type which unless you take this with a resonable sized meal, it can often result in a need to "sprint to the washroom"

Although this has never happened to me on a flight, it is the fear of this (and a suffering of mild claustrophobia) that I always request an aisle seat in Y. In J I'm OK with the window as I can always get out of my seat.

Always seems a very irrational anxiety when not on a flight. However, hypnosis really does work if anyone has strong fears / anxiety about flying.

Being ill in the air is not fun. This thread reminds me of a trip to Manila a few months ago. Had been to a rather good party the night before, woke up the next morning after about three hours sleep feeling absolutely wrecked and needing to get to Heathrow having left the car in another city 10 miles away.

After finding the car, I somehow managed to drive up to Heathrow, was sick three times in the Terminal 2 toilets pre-departure, left my AC card in the Lufthansa lounge, and generally looked like a sweating mess... the first flight out of Heathrow was probably the worst I've ever experienced. Never again!

Similar to others I *need* to have an aisle seat in Y. Not that I've experienced many mad dashes to the toilets, but I have this mild clastrophobic thing and hate not being able to get out of my seat without moving two people. The thought of long-haul stuck in a window or even worse middle seat actually fills me with dread.

Middle seat on SIN-LHR, was NOT impressed. Kept talking to myself, 'please just let me sleep, please just let me sleep', no such luck.

Only time it's happened to me recently was LH coach going to South Africa, amazingly the check-in agent at LHR even asked me if I wanted a window or aisle, and told me she'd sorted me aisles on both ways. I checked the BPs and saw both seats were B but decided it must be a 2-5-2 config or something (next time I won't give them benefit of the doubt). Anyway, she'd kindly given me middles in both segments and the LH gate-staff where absolutely unwilling to do anything about it. :(
