What's the board experience with diff between Tango & Tango Plus?
I know it's only been a while since the rebranding, but what's the general feeling of the difference between the two fare basis? Do most opt-up for a smallish difference, such as $40-$50? Also what's the most noticable spread you've seen beteeen the two? I was checking space last night for my own flight YEG-YYC and noticed one flight the gap was $100, while the rest of the outbound in around the $50 difference.

Feedback? For domestic, like YYZ YVR there have been some pretty damn cheap Tango+ fares but for the most part, I always opt for Tango+. If it's a short haul I will either go with Tango (if super damn cheap) or AP instant KK. For long hauls it's always Tango+ or Latitude. I will also do the occasional full fare trips, but that is something my work would pay for :D |
I booked 4 segments today.All were in Tango Plus.The return from YQG to YSB via YYZ was approx $90.00 more in Tango Plus connecting on an 8:15 am connection from YQG at 6:00am than taking the 10:00am connect to YSB from YYZ.
Bottom line ,$90.00 more to make a great connect vs,waiting almost 2 hours and saving the above :( |
My Company's policy is cheapest fare, however we get a corporate discount for L and Q fares that male up 1/2 the difference between Tango and Tango+. Also it is Company policy to pay the extra $15 for seat selection when on a Tango fare. Therefore quite often the Tango+ fare is cheaper than the Tango fare.
The miles are a nice bonus. Note that on T-border fares the Tango+ is cheaper, I can't think of a reason to buy Tango. |
I think the price difference between Tango and T+ is worth it for the flexibility it offers. The $50 vs $150 airport change fee is less than the cost of a Latitude fare, and I object to paying for seat selection. I fly Lat when I can, but most personal travel is T+. Probably the most important thing for me, though, is status miles, especially now when T+ gives 100%. THat can make the difference between E and SE at the end of the year.

As noted, most spreads are between $30 and $50 on a domestic transcon one-way, depending upon which fare buckets are left in TANGO versus TANGO PLUS. AC advertises the value of purchasing TANGO PLUS over TANGO by noting the seat reservation and full status Aeroplan miles. And as others have also noted, there is still little price spread between the two on transborder flights.

I was pricing out some travel to SFO and YUL and found domestic T+ fares that were less than Tango! I have noticed this pattern on a few occasions now with domestic routing. Is this an AC strategy to up the fare costs since JetsGo's demise?

I booked over 13 domestic flights last week. 12 T+ and 1 T. All T+ flights were $30 more than T (one-way). Seat selection and lower change fees are why I purchase T+ (and of course Status miles ;) ).

BINGO!!!! Corporate Travel is coordinated out fo my Company's Toronto head office and we have 50+ offices accross Canada. Our travel reach is Global, along with our client locations Every October new rules come out regarding company travel. To tie into another thread, my company has a written policy that FFP are consider a perk for having to travel. |

Westjet charges $30 for flight changes and so does Tango. Westjet does not allow advanced seat selection. Tango will allow seat selection but at a premium. However if Westjet were to allow free advanced seat selection, the $15 Tango charge would be removed. As to why Tango+ is the same price as Tango, there is not any major LCC presence on on the Transborder market. The only real competition is YYZ-Florida (but most of Westjet routes were not daily) and YYC-LAX. |
Although I haven't been flying much lately 100% of it is transborder short hops so I have always purchased Fun/Tango +. Status miles and save a dollar for coffee. ^

I too noticed that domestic Tango fares are higher than Tango+ in some cases. This worked to YUL-YYZ outbound June 1 and inbound June 14 (both segments had this situation). If my earlier thesis is true, this situation is because AC has 25 flights to Westjet's 4 and a non existent Canjet. On routes where AC and Westjet compete head on, the fare classes operate as normal. |
About the transborder Tango fares being $1 more than Tango+ - I remember reading somewhere here earlier in the winter (YYZ do?) that AC was trying to eliminate the Tango fare option for USA but the software for the web site didn't allow it (or something like that) so the way they eliminate it is to make the Tango $1 more than Tango plus.
It also has something to do with the code sharing with United and their fare buckets and Status miles for pretty much all of the United flights IIRC. Congrats also to Academic... |

There are many fare classes in Tango. If the lowest elements of Tango are sold out the the higher elements are still available. There are many fare classes within Tango+ also. It just happens that the lowest + is lower than the highest pure Tango. |

Tango+ is used to compete against transborder American carriers -- it has advanced seat assignment and 100% status miles (used to be 50% status miles) -- this is in line with American carriers. They couldn't use Tango because you get no status miles and no seat assignments, so this made sense to have Tango+ the cheaper (and competitive) option... this is the reason why Tango+ is cheaper than Tango. This was stated by Empress a few times in past threads, as well as at the YVR DO. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showp...7&postcount=71 (for the newbies, Fun is the old name for Tango+) But also, keep in mind what exAC said above... the cheapest Tango is still cheaper than the most expensive Tango+, but for the most part you will see the cheaper option in most cases as the fare classes tend to align themselves with others. |
I booked some domestic flights, all in Tango+ for July. There was a $30 difference, but these flights will get me to Prestige status (yeah I know), so I just did it for the status miles. I know quite a few other students who do the same thing for the miles.
Westjet hasn't been cheaper than AC, in Tango or Tango+ recently for any of the dates or routes I've been checking out. |
