I recall October being mentioned, if the major fleet order was announced within days of the ACE Board meeting that was to be held the Tuesday following the YYZ Do. This announcement may have set that back a month, or might be the sked referred to. I also recall they said we would likely get a look at the new J seats later in the summer.
And remember, this summer's trial of Club Class is also intended to test the viability of a third class of service on these long hauls, for a premium of about $200 over discounted Hospitality. So AC may also be awaiting the outcome of this before finalizing configurations.
Yes, lots of questions for the YVR Do, so go for it!

Great news!! ^ Happy that AC is getting new planes PERIOD!
Very much needed. I think they made the right choice with Boeing, considering all the problems with the new Airbus aircraft. Plus I think the deliveries of aircraft were faster with Boeing which help's AC... Now I hope they will fit them with comfortable seats...

As per the details off the live AC webcast this morning the order breakdown is as follows for now:
The 787-800's will replace the 763's and the 787-900's will replace the A330's
in 2008, there will be 11 787's delivered.
the 777-200LR will fly routes such as YVR-SYD, YYZ-HKG, YYZ-BOM, YYZ-DEL. there will also be 2 777LRF's for delivery in 2009.
The first 3 planes on the order will be 777-300ER's (may 06, jun 06 and dec 06) they will be placed on YVR-NRT, YYZ-FRA and YYZ-LHR
and 6 more 777's in 2007 and 4 more in 2008. this is an undiecided miz as of yet
THe 767's will also be updated with winglets and a new interior.

Wow, you really missed the point didn't you? They have locked in production slots in 2010. As in 5 years from now, and they are only getting 3 aircraft next year. That's not much spending by airline standards.

Great move, I love flying in 777's. Waiting for the 767 seating & IFE to be upgraded. AC will start getting my long haul business back once these are on the routes I want to fly. UA's been getting almost all my long haul business (other times BA). Now I will have to travel to SEA to get an AC flight connecting to Asia/Europe for $$$ less than YVR instead of UA.

Just curious why everyone is so happy about this. I have found the Airbus planes to be perfectly fine, though admittedly I'm less tuned in to the finer points the these things than others on this board. What were the problems with the Airbus planes that people are referring to? And what is the great advantage of Boeing over Airbus planes?

Wow!! This free (and good) PR must be worth a pretty penny to AC. It's been picked up by almost every news outlet from the Charlotte Observer to Business Week to Bloomberg to Forbes to Reuters and WSJ. It's also in a way further underlining how far ahead AC is of many of the still troubled American carriers. Clients even heard about it on the monring news and are mentioning it to me.

I must say I am in SHOCK.... Excited and amazed... the 777 is so much better than the 340's Airbust junk.... however how will AC fill those seats ...
Anyhow, who cares maybe the new planes burn so much less fuel the seats can go empty... or cross my fingers AC will add larger J cabins to really compete!
YIPEE I can come back to AC in 2007 when some planes get into service.
