What's going to be used to replace 319/320/321 from Boeing? 737s? 767s would have too much capacity.

I can't see AC ditching Airbus entirely (and would not be surprised if they wanted to go all-Airbus on larger aircraft). ACTS is without doubt the leading maintenance supplier for Airbus planes in North America, and has a decent business of providing overhaul services to third party airlines. This in turn really improves the overheads of maintaining the AC fleet.

The idea of buying anything let alone an aircraft, from a consortium made of countries that historically battle each other, speak different languages, drive on different sides of the road, have lots of government involvement boggles my mind.
I'II second this one. Did AC and GTAA take into account the cost of extending the runways for a more fuel efficient A350. More fuel efficiency, less power, longer takeoff roll.

The announcement under discussion was about replacing WIDE-BODY aircraft. AC has said nothing about the main-line narrow-body fleet. I suppose it will all eventually require replacement, but it isn't a big issue at the moment. And, I don't necessarily think that a choice for Boeing for wide-body will drive AC to Boeing for narrow-body. Though the obvious choice would seem to be the 737 family or its successor.

after looking at seat guru, some of the airlines are able to have 2x3x2 in J and have the J seat width set at 20.5 inches, the airlines with 2x2x2 in J have at most 22 inch wide seats. AC's current J seats are 20-21 inches in width, so the door is open for a 2x3x2 seating config upfront.

Unlikely. The airlines that do 2x3x2 in J on the 777 also do 2x2x2 in J on the 767. AC's international J is supposed to be a cross between J and F.

I'd be more worried about Y. There are a lot of middle seats on the 777 in Y for both the standard 3x3x3 or 2x5x2 configurations.

that's the main reason I don't like the 777.

Spend a lot of time flying in the back on 777s, eh?

I do most of my flying LHR-YVR and then Dash8 to PDX.

When travelling in the back my preference is for a 767. 2-3-2 so that if I can get the centre aisle there is a good chance that the 2 other seats will go to
a couple and the occupier of the middle will disturb their partner rather
than me. So, the same would happen if it was 3-3-3. 2-5-2 and there's
no chance of not getting disturbed.

Now that I've been corrupted by travelling up the front I like the single
seat on a 767 (if only the inflight entertainment didn't suck so much).
What a poor range of rubbish movies on DVD. The seating was much
better on the 343 and the VOD was really good.

Also, the service was better on the 343, probably down to galley space.
My nuts were served warm rather than cold (ooh er).

So, if I continue to manage to get to sit up front then I don't really care.
But in the back of the bus the difference is much greater.

I sat at the very back of a CRJ PDX-SBA last week. My colleague, with the
aisle seat spent the entire flight shutting the toilet door.

Chris.

In fact most airlines who operate 2 class aircraft have a 2x2x2 config. DL, CO, as well as TG (new config), and BA have 6 abreast seating.
BA have the funky 2-4-2 seating for their Club World...

out of curiosity, how do you get out of one of those middle seats? climb over the person on the aisle? would that not be kind of hard?

I don't imagine it's any different than getting past the aisle seat if you are at the window. Of course, if the person has the seat fully reclined and is asleep, it might be hard in either case LOL.
