In fact most airlines who operate 2 class aircraft have a 2x2x2 config. DL, CO, as well as TG (new config), and BA have 6 abreast seating.

A few months ago, Star Alliance came out and said they (collectively as a group) will evaluate the technical and performance specification of B787 and A350. That announcement sounded odd to me as NH and NZ had already announced their 787 orders.
Based on AC's decision to buy either 787 or A350, does it mean Star is also finalizing its analysis and AC is making its decision on Star Alliance's recommendation?
IMHO, that Star annoucement was just for PR and lack any real substance. Each member will make its own decision based on needs and operating plans.
I do like AC ordering 787 to replace its 767 fleet.

I guess we could expect an announcement at the Paris Air Show this year..... IIRC, the AirShow is in mid-June, right about the time that Milton/ACE is expected to announce their decision????
I love the 777 and would love to see it, and the 787, in AC livery.... even though it might look like a flying mint julep.......

The 777 has a lot more BIN space, individual air controls, and a lot more head room... however it also carries more passengers than the 340.... so I dont see how AC can buy the 777? I really wish they would, but it does seem like a long shot.
Also at the YYZ do we were told the decision on planes was in two months...

Between the 777s and 340s, which one provide better economy of scale? I thought SQ and LH were not happy with the 340s fuel economy.
Does the 777 share any common parts with the 767s or the 787s? That could play a role as commonalities reduce cost of maintenance, training and administration.
Either way, I can see some exciting new routes if AC were to get long-range 777s, 787s and 340/350.

Also that extra seat in Y creates one more middle seat, and one more angry pax per row And BTW BA configures their J cabin on the 777 2x4x2

Depending on when AC really wants the planes, with Boeing, it may be
757s replacing 319/320/321
777s replacing 767-200/767-300/333/343/345
787s replacing 767-200/767-300/333/343/345
With Airbus, it may be
More 319/320/321s
330 and 340 series replacing 767-200/767-300
350s - new - though isn't this really an overlap between 330s and 340s?
Which scenarios are we happy with? Personally, AC should retire the 767s asap. The rattle during take off and landing sounded like the plane may be falling apart.

The idea of buying anything let alone an aircraft, from a consortium made of countries that historically battle each other, speak different languages, drive on different sides of the road, have lots of government involvement boggles my mind.
