Depends on which package you choose. As a first time Elite, they give you Package 1 so you don't get to choose. However, I always suggest not using the package they send (unless that is what you want) and call in and ask for one of the other packages.

So packages with no mileage bonuses are 1 and 2 (at least not on miles you earn throughout the year). You do get way more upgrades with package #1 though--good if you can use them, especially if you fly a lot internationally but a mixed bag if you can't afford the fares that are upgradeable in North America!

• Package 1: 4 R & 4 NA upgrades, 2.5K Q miles, 2 Maple Leaf Lounge (MLL) passes
• Package 2: 2 R & 2 S upgrades, 5K Q miles, 2 MLL passes
• Package 3: 1 S & 2 R upgrades; 50% bonus miles on AC metal & 25% LH, NH , BD

So in short you get 0% mileage bonus with Packages 1 (your welcome package) and 2 (you can choose this in your second year) and 50% in Package 3 (also choose in your second year).

Simple huh! ;)

Good luck figuring out which one you would really like to pick. Package 3 would be my package of choice --bonus miles plus 3 useable certificates.

I should clarify my SWUs--they are good on H and higher fares internationally and domestic non-stopover parts of continuing international travel but only on Latitude and Latitude Plus domestic/transborder (fares Y, M, U). I keep forgetting as I never fly domestically with upgrades except on international fares . . .
