Same Day Standby Allowed?

With all the recent changes and 'improvements' made to Aeroplan, can one still fly later the same-day on standy on a redemption ticket?

I was told last week by an AP agent that it was for earlier flights only.

Agreed - earlier flights only. The new changes/cancellations policy makes it clear with the 2 hours before departure rule and not travelling on original flight without a confirmed change made loss of ticket rule.

Thanks...

for the (bad!) news.

If I were to book a ticket in advance, for an earlier flight (the only one available) would the possibility exist that I could check in on-line prior to the departure of my flight, for a later flight?

Or wouldn't I be able to check in on line for another flight different from the one on which I was booked?

I know that when I have checked in at the airport machines that the computer has asked me if I would like to fly on an earlier flight...

Just a thought?

Although AP would tell you standby is not allowed after the flight I've been told by more then one gate agent that they never heard of this and would allow it. They say as far as they're concerned the ticket remains open the whole calendar day and you certainly won't forfeit your ticket if you miss the original flight. I have yet to test them on this but for some reason I believe them.
