CTV's Mike Duffy reports he was on his way to Washington, but told by AC staff to go home. Nothing moving -- CFTO.

TORONTO -- A labour dispute has grounded all Air Canada flights
in and out of Toronto's Pearson International Airport.
Connie Turner, a spokeswoman with the Greater Toronto Airports
Authority, says the airline has told them about an unscheduled job
action.
Turner has been told the action involves ground crews.
There's no word on how many flights and passengers are affected.
Toronto T-V station C-F-T-O reports passengers waiting at the
airport have been told to go home.

Newsworld Business News reported that some flights were impacted by the walkout. Very sketchy details at this time.

Edited to add this news from Toronto Star Website:

"Pearson labour dispute affects 122 Air Canada flights
All Air Canada flights delayed, cancelled: Report

THESTAR.COM STAFF

All Air Canada flights into and out of Pearson International Airport have either been delayed or cancelled because of a labour dispute, CTV News reported tonight.
The network quoted one of its correspondents as saying he was at the airport and had been told, along with other passengers, to go home.

Anyone planning to fly tonight is asked to check with the airline before going to the airport.

The Greater Toronto Airport Authority Web site this evening listed 61 Air Canada arrivals as delayed, and 21 as cancelled.

Air Canada departures were affected as well, with 29 delayed and 11 cancelled. "

I meant YYZ .........but wouldn't a bunch of stranded aircraft impact other flights across the country?

But with the number of flights AC has in and out of YYZ, the Flight Arrival and Departure lists at GTAA read Delayed Delayed Cancelled Delayed Cancelled.... Think about the repositioning required....

glad I'm home today

Just talked to a friend who says there are several aircraft stopped short of the gates and full on inbound pax who are now stuck there. Anyone on a blackberry etc on a craft?

Bad day indeed, between snow delays and now this? poor folks stuck just short of gates! at least some are in the terminal.

From CBC:

The dispute took shape on Wednesday afternoon after the airline disciplined several employees apparently over clocking out at the end of their shifts.

A spokesperson for the airline said the dispute involves ground service employees, including baggage handlers and workers who guide airplanes on the tarmac. There is no indication how long the dispute will last.

"The dispute concerns how workers punch out at the end of a shift, said Bill Trbovitch, a spokesman for the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, which represents the workers.

"We know that it is over a long-standing issue," said Trbovitch, who did not immediately have more information about the strike.

Trbovitch said the employees weren't expected to return to their jobs tonight." The Star

Guess we'll have to await a post from YYZC2 to get the real story.
