MPM and its limits
 

I recently booked a *A award from Asia to Australia.

I hit a snag with the routing at one point because I went over the MPM.

Does anyone know what MPM is and what is the limit?

MPM is Maximum Permitted Mileage


All international fares have a mileage maximum, example if you were to fly from Toronto to Sydney Australia the normal routing would be Toronto to Vancouver or Los Angeles then on to Sydney. That routing would be within the max permitted mileage. If you deviated say Toronto to Miami to Seattle to Los Angeles to Sydney, you would be over the max permitted mileage for the route and it will not quote, in the past a travel agent would have to surcharge the fare by a percentage, based on the number of miles you were over the permitted mileage.

IIRC, you can exceed MPM by up to 25% of the mileage by paying the surcharge.

Thanks to a wonderful agent who tried different routes, I was able to change my ticket ($55) charge and stay within the MPM.

I'm flying HKG-SYD via SIN, (openjaw) MEL-SIN-KUL-BKK (stopover)-HKG on SQ and TG.

It's great. I only have to get an extra ticket from SYD-MEL instead of getting a BKK-KUL rt ticket.

What's there to do in 24 hours in SIN and KUL?

Some things I like in SIN - night zoo, Newton circus for pepper crab, shopping, Raffles for drinks (small museum too) and Raffles also has a very good Sunday brunch.

KUL - Petronas tower, shopping, short tour of the city, very good food too..
