OT: Sending USD from YYC to EZE
A colleague of mine has a family member who needs $1000 USD in EZE ASAP. I ran out of suggestions when I found out that Amex no longer offers a funds transfer service between Amex offices. Does anyone have any suggestions?
PS The option of withdrawing pesos over a period of a few days and then coverting them back into USD is a last resort. |
Try Western Union . It will likely cost them a few $$$ to use it but they might be the best option for ASAP.
Here is a link on how to send money from Canada on-line from their web site. |
I checked out Western Union; they claim on their website that the transaction limit is only $500 CAD and the fee per transaction was $54 CAD. Yikes!
|
Agreed it's not cheap but I am sure that you could do $1,000 US from an actual building location. They are probably trying to limit fraud by having a max. on the online version.
As for the surcharge, you did say ASAP ;) |
I have some free time later this week and would be able to personally deliver the money..................PM me and I'll give you the coordinates for my J class ticket :D
A fedex package with a certified money order would work pretty quickly |
Not brilliant. Fed Ex packages are subject to customs inspections. Hopefully you can see the problem with this. :td:

Thanks for the suggestions. The story is that only Argentinians bank customers have the option to withdraw either USD or Argentinian pesos with their ATM cards. Foreigners have access to only the pesos in the Buenos Aires ATMs. Sounds odd to me but thems the rules. Withdrawing pesos from the CAD RBC account and then reconverting into USD worked today but with a double exchange rate hit.

You can send/receive cash by Western Union at any Money Mart location. I'm sure they can handle amounts far greater than $1000.

P.S. "Certified money order[s]" don't actually exist :) |
I would suggest a Wire payment from a Canadian bank would be the best alternative other than Western Union. A few cautions:
The recipient may still be charged to receive it Timeframe for sending is not usually guaranteed The receiving bank may automatically convert the payment to local currency - especially if it's being directed to an actual account there BNS may be your best bet given their South American businesses - even though they ditched their interests in Argentina. |
