OT: NW ending Special Meals on "domestic" flights
Over on the NW board they are discussing that as of 1st September 2004 NW will discontinue offering Special Meals on "domestic" flights.
Will this ripple throughout the airline industry in North America?

I can assure you these NW meals were not special It does really suck for those that have special needs though, especially if others do receive a meal.

NW should use a Loblaw's name for this - Memories of Canada 3000. Remember when MM tried to introduce fees for special meals? Unfair! Discrimination! So they listened, and removed the fees right before they went out of business. NW was smart to stop serving food first - then tell you that the food you won't be getting is also not a special meal. AC is quick to try things but has not done this money-saver yet. Here's a prediction for how this wil be handled in the future. Give everyone the same meal - a pork chop and a banana. If you are on any special meal they remove the pork chop and add it to a banana for the next flight. In J you get two pork chops. Only on domestic flights over five hours.
