Boarding

Which doors are generally used when boarding B763 (1x2x2) and A330 and 744/74E? The very front ones or the ones between J and Y?

Left front door for 767s; left second door for 74E & A330/340.

I'm more curious as to why this matters, Ottawa Mark.

Actually I am wondering about that too.

There wasn't a "second" front door on the 763 the last time I checked..............oh , there were a few "euro" style 763 before but they are gone now, right?

Two reasons:

1) Simple curiosity on my part. I recall the old CP paper timetables and I believe their aircraft seat maps highlighted the main boarding doors (solid black arrow as opposed to a white arrow outlined in black).

2) My 5 year old daughter asked me. Over the past few weeks she has become as large an aviation enthusiast as I.

even the 4 big doors on each side style 763, they still board thru the front door, same with the 321. I would have thought that it would be easier to board thru the second door on at least some of the 763's. The 321's have row 12 right there, so it wouldnt be easy to do.

Interesting note, KLM and other airlines with 74Es in AMS board through the first door and the rear door infront of the combi cargo door.

Although this doesn't exactly answer the question but the info with regards to exits on the 763 (and all planes for that matter) can be found at airliners.net. With regards to boarding, all flights (at the airports I've been to) board through both entrances if available. This has to do with the bridges from the terminal itself . If for example there are 2 entrances forward of the wing and the bridge is a double bridge then they use both doors. If the aircraft (the 763 in your case) has just one entrance then they use one only. At many North American airports they don't have double bridges so they can't use the second door even if it were available. Boarding would be far smoother if they used both doors but this problem has more to do with infrastructure than anything else.

AC doesn't want us to 'turn left'.

A lot of it has to do with the airport. At LHR in T4 on the 747 I've always boarded thru the first door. In T3, most of the gates have 2 jetways, same with FRA. At DUB I've always been on an A321, and they have the jetway going to the first door, and a staircase going the third door, for people sitting at the back. At YVR, they always board thru the 2nd door if possible.
