Delete last segment of an award?
 

I have an upcoming award ticket on AC in J DUB-YYZ-DCA and I've had a need arise to be in a different destination city. Can I ask them to just delete the last segment without repricing? The miles to cancel and rebook are about 3 times as much now. I would just skip the last segment, but I'm coming back from a very long trip and will have to have a checked bag.

Unfortunately you cannot without repricing. Only option would be to ask them to short check your bag, “because you need access to it in YYZ”. Might be harder sell if you have a short connection.

There's a concierge in DUB these days (or at least was in January). Suggest showing up with plenty of time before bag drop cutoff and asking for Concierge help if they won't short check the bag to YYZ for you. As yyzgigi says, just say you need access to it in YYZ and will be going landside before your onward connection ("to meet my family member and give them a gift that's in my checked luggage and is 750ml of liquid so can't be brought on board").

I have never had an issue with having a bag short-checked, and it's never required an elaborate story...I think the more elaborate the story the more suspicious you probably look, not that I think they're really looking.

Have you tried the online change flow? A new booking is likely more expensive due to the fare class, but if you can retain your existing fare class in an exchange, the price difference could be much closer to 0.

Thanks for the suggestion! For some reason, when I do the online change and put DUB-YYZ, it doesn't give me the nonstop as an option - it provides other flights such as DUB-LIS-YYZ. But when I do a brand new search, DUB-YYZ nonstop does appear (for 134.3K in business...not as bad as when I was looking for DUB-YYZ-BNA.) Any idea how to make the DUB-YYZ show up as a choice on the online change flow?

I'd probably suggest just calling and asking at this point.
