Angry Can’t select priority seat

Hello,

I’ve called in and asked this but cant seem to get anyone that can help me. I am super elite and typically have had no issues selecting any priority (more leg room) seat on flights right after I purchase them.

As of the last 4 weeks or so, I can no longer do that. I can select any other seat free of charge but it charges me the going rate to select a seat with extra leg room. I am booking flex fares not that it should matter I am typically able to select seats on any fare class as a SE status holder.

Any insight would be appreciated.

You'll have to call in and see if they can waive the seat fee for preferred seats. I think there's a glitch lately where it is charging SE's when it should not.

Yup there's a glitch somewhere. I'm SE and booked premium economy a few days ago for an upcoming flight, and they charged me $90 for the seat. I had to call in to get it refunded.

You can also send an email to the AC SE concierge and they can also take care of the refund for you.

Yeah I’ve had no issues calling and having them select the seat for me, but what a pain! I travel almost weekly…I know first world problems, but still.

Any ideas when they might fix the glitch?

Well, so much for having AC refund the seat charge. Apparently the refund also results in you losing the seat. I had a seat selected in premium economy at time of reservation (it's codeshare with Lufthansa, but booked through AirCanada.com), and was charged $90 CAD. Called in to Air Canada and they refunded the seat charge. But now when I go back to my reservation, I no longer have a seat reserved (and when I try to grab the same seat again, once again it wants to charge me $90).

Does free seat selection for SE not extend to codeshare flights (even though booked through aircanada.com)?

I've had the same issue. They put me on hold while they checked with IT, and they confirmed it's a known glitch. They don't have any ETA timeframe for the fix yet

it applies to Air Canada operated flights. You’re not SE on a LH flight, you’re Star Alliance Gold.

Might take a year or two knowing AC's IT department! lol They still haven't fixed booking with Priority rewards and children on the website, booking children alone, ghost availability with partner airlines, unfreezing frozen accounts and returning points due to fraud, stopping family sharing, processing missing points, sqm, sqd on past flights.... did I miss anything?
