Two separate bookings for a flight with 1 seat remaining.
My friend and I are trying to book a flight to Japan from around April to May 2024 separately under different accounts. We see various non-stop flights but they all show "1 seat remaining" for 35k Aeroplan points. We can select seats and progress through the pages up to checkout.
I am interpreting this as Air Canada is only offering 1 seat at this point cost at this time.
I am wondering what happens if we both submit at the same time. I am imagining one of us will get an error or get rejected.
Wondering if anyone has tried and succeeded.

Unless the flight is fully sold (unlikely if it's priced at 35k which seems pretty reasonable), another seat will probably come available at a slightly (or much) higher point value...

I did this experiment with a friend with 1 seat remaining in a particular fare class. We both counted down to 1 and clicked at the same time.
My ticket purchase went through at the lower price.
His ticket purchase errored and when the screen was refreshed, he had to pay a higher fare (we split the difference in fare).

In this era of dynamic inventory management - I can tell you that in many cases when the inventory is 2 . . . that booking 1 seat may zero out the other. My other half and me were watching for a particular flight/route to come available . . then there were 3 seats - - after we booked - - it was zeroed out again. This can be a problem occasionally . . I also have had many things where I am booking 1 seat when inventory was 2 . . booking 1 zeroed out the other . . .

Ive also seen one seat at say $129 and when booked the fare for other seats went to the next level BUT the next day the system replenished that one seat at $129.likely a strategy to show up as the lowest cost option in searches. No guarantees but Id keep an eye on it in the 24 hour period where you can cancel the second higher fare ticket

My guess is that this is an ANA flight reward in Aeroplan?
1 seat is common this far out.. as the flight date gets closer they may release more seats.
