UA's Polaris pods narrow very annoyingly right around where my knees go, which is problematic given the pod isn't long enough for me to lie down fully and I need to bend my knees to fit) so they can cram a couple of extra seats in the J cabin, that will be a big negative for me.

Not a fan of facing away from the window like AC's XM product did.
I think I'd prefer this one: https://onemileatatime.com/stelia-ae...ss-class-seat/

There are some trade offs.
Looking out from the window can be quite difficult in herringbone layout, especially if the seat back is slightly in front of the window.
Facing away from the window avoids the foot coffin. The foot coffin itself isnt a concern, as it can be large enough, but on most aircrafts, its not.
My overall impression is, lie-flat seats on narrow body aircrafts look tiny, but its much better than the recliners today.

Interesting...I totally prefer facing away from the window...way more privacy...nobody lurking behind to see any work you might be doing on your laptop, head away from the aisle for sleeping, particularly important on overnight flights when they start banging the breakfast cart around 75 mins prior to landing...I think that's way better, like who looks out the window anyways? Maybe the FOTSG crowd, but after 1.7m miles, if you've seen one farm field from 35k feet you've seen them all!

Facing away from the window isnt that bad. As long as the seat back is not directly in front of a window, its fine. On project XM aircrafts, I knew which seats had this issue and I avoided them. Even on those seats, once the aircraft is in the air, reclining the seat a bit solves the problem.

After 1.5m miles, I still enjoy looking out the window from 38k feet. Even better viewing these days with larger windows on 787 and A350. I prefer looking at window with doors for privacy, I don't want to look at other people or their feet or their IFE screen when flying.
