First time seeing this right in EF (AC1953 today):

Of course AC.com only says "Customers on this flight may refer to email, SMS notifications, and boarding gate announcements for more information on this delay." of course .

AC 8969 YUL-ORD diverted to YYZ due to weather on 1/3. Pilots said ceiling was too low to commence the approach and not enough fuel to wait, so had to turn back.

Atrocious experience at YYZ. 1.5 hours to get the bags, then another 1.5 hours in line to speak with an agent (and I was in the first half of pax leaving customs to get in line. Line behind me was more than double the original size by the time I was done). Agents had no idea what was going on, some were issuing vouchers, some were telling customers they would get later cash reimbursement for hotels and meals, others telling customers they would get nothing with it being WX-related. The agent assisting me told me my checked bags would be transferred to my next flight and I would not have to pick them up, at which point I had to point out that they were sitting at my feet as we spoke

A supervisor(?) showed up just as I was leaving at 3 AM, instructing the agents on how to speed up and stop wasting everybody's time (his words) - So hopefully it got better for those in line behind me.

Interesting info, thanks. Started looking at more history and looks like it cleared up around 0530Z. FA told me the crew was good until 2 or 3 AM so they were hoping we could wait it out in Toronto and head back, and from the weather it looks like they could have, but presumably ORD airspace was very backed up at that time with all of the affected flights. We found out it was going to be cancelled while taxiing to gate at YYZ.

A new era for ACx?

Not sure if others have had the same experience recently—please share, if so (along with the appropriate redirection as required good Moderator)…

For the first time, possibly ever that I recollect, ACx just offloaded a px once boarding “closed.” I can’t count how many times I’ve sat on an Express plane “waiting” for who knows what. Misconnections are one thing but, “he’s just scanned into security” as I walked on last at T-15min. The GA even gave him a 2 min grace period…

This particular flight is notorious for being 2, 3 or 4 hours late (with a 23h00 arrival as it is) so, I’m thrilled that MAYBE, there is a plan for timeliness happening.

Sorry ‘Late Dude’ if the fault was not your own but this particular flyer appreciates an on time boarding and push-back. Here’s to many more ACx!!

Heads up all departures to the US are presently ground stopped

Due to an outage with the NOTAM system at the FAA all flights to the US (including US domestic flights) are presently ground stopped till 9am eastern.

All departures now delayed until at least 9:30 AM EST. The AC departures board at YYZ is starting to look pretty messy.

Update: "The agency said it was making progress restoring the system. It said some departures are resuming and that it expects other departures to restart at 9 a.m. ET."

Currently sitting on the tarmac at yyz, departing flights on ground hold due to “security breach” at the airport as announced by the SD.

Does anybody know the reasong for the cancellation of AC8994 on Dec 31 2022? We were told via email that the reason was bad weather, however some planes flew from YYZ to LGA at the same time, so I do not think the reason told by AC (weather) is true. Handling at YYZ was chaotic. We were rebooked three days later and it took six hours to get our luggage and to find someone who was able to issue hotel and taxi vouchers. Thank god we found two seats to NYC on Jan 1 2023 by ourself.

That is not a logical conclusion from the facts presented.

To speak about an airport I'm much more familiar with, when there is poor visibility at SFO, they have to drastically reduce arrivals to maintain separation between aircraft on the very close parallel runways.

So if there's fog "all day" at SFO, arrivals will be cut down by 50% (not a real number, just an example). So other flights would still fly "at the same time", but the cause of the delays/cancellations would still legitimately be "weather".

AC8508 YYZ YFC January 12 was delayed 5 hours leaving Toronto, ending up leaving after 2 am, then diverted to Halifax due to the weather in Fredericton.
