Pricing Differences....
 

Hi All,

I'm confused. I've been asked by my office to save money on a trip that came up at last minute.

I looked up the following flight set from Air Canada:
Sunday 12th
AC1011 - YOW to ORD
AC5259 - ORD to SFO
Saturday 18th
AC5388 - SFO to ORD
AC1014 - ORD to YOW

On aircanada.com, this fare is $3037.85.
On ual.com, this fare is $2604.60.

Is Air Canada really making a serious play to be competitive? I'll still get my FF points and be able to finish my Super Elite status for 2004 but save over $400 on the same segments.

It seems like the pricing for Air Canada is still stuck at the $0.62 cdn / $1 US.

Side note: The best fare my travel agent could come up with is $3700 cdn using Air Canada segments.

Code share flights. Each airline has so many seats to sell on the others flights. So it is perfectly possible that AC has sold all its cheaper seats while UA still has some available. Equally it could be the other way around on a different flight. If you are really keen you could check it out on galileo and see the actual figures. Thats all. Not in this case and on very few obscure routes only is there "Block Space". All flights with UA/LH/BD/SK are "Free Sell". Either airline can sell as much or as little as they are able. Block space is more likely with airlines outside Star. The only one that comes to mind is Jordanian and that might have expired.

Fares coming out of whack like this is quite common for a number of reasons and maybe because of two or three at the same time on a particular city pair. The best answer is go for the cheaper fare and enjoy.
