Seat Selection Fees in US dollars.....
Did a search - no luck do forgive me if this has been addressed...
I have oft wondered why I, a Canadian, living in Canada, flying a Canadian airline, am charged seat selection fees in US dollars. Went thru the process again just now, even changed the currency drop down to Canadian which flipped back to US $ before I could complete the process. Why is this ok for AC to do this? Rant over but man, does this treatment leave a sour taste.

Generally, the pricing is based on where the trip started. If you have a trip - for example . . SFO-YVR-SFO - regardless of where you book and pay - essentially, this is a USD fare which will be converted to the currency in the country where the ticket is issued. The- typically, the ancillary items are then charged based on the pricing in that country. You may be able to pay CAD but the pricing will be based on USD.
I see this also on Swiss - who I book a lot. I never have to pay for charges but I have seen the whole range of currencies depending on where I start my ticket . . NOK/EUR/CZK/GBP . . .
Is your ticket starting in USA?

The AC web site is way too complicated for its own good. Lots of assumptions on people's behavior. Which often leads to unpredictable results when not quite in the standard behavior case. Often for no good reson except looks and looking fancy. Plus as time goes on, it only gets worse. Adding and adding (mostly unnecessary) features.
Are they still contracting to IBM?
