2022-02-17 Booking Class Changes

As previously communicated on January 6, our G booking class has moved to our lowest selling economy cabin retail fare.

In the upcoming month, our N booking class will be a dedicated redemption and upgrade class, and A booking class will move to the Premium Economy cabin, which will provide three dedicated retail selling classes:

O – will remain Premium Economy Flexible
E – will remain Premium Economy Lowest
A – dedicated (replacing N) Premium Economy Lowest

Additionally, effective February 22, customers currently holding A booking class will be re-accommodated into K booking class.
I wasn't aware that G is now the lowest, but that seems to be reflected everywhere.

It's good to know that we'll soon be able to search for (or set alerts for) N space to actually find redemption and upgrade space.

True, although wouldn't it have been simpler to leave N as-is and re-purpose A for the redemption/upgrade bucket?

On one hand, I want to guess "alignment", but I think LH uses GEN and UA uses OAR?

I have other speculation, but it's... pure speculation.

N is probably embedded in so many upgrade and reward processes that it’s likely easier and less risky to keep that as N

This would be a good time to have a slightly higher PE category with lower e-upgrade requirements

like economy fares...just sayin

No, somewhere between N and O

Like in the older days where M and U had less than the rest of the alphabet

Right. I'm just saying I don't see the need for another booking class when they could just use E.

"N booking class will be a dedicated redemption and upgrade class"
so does this mean that there will be less availability for award redemptions into PE, because upgrade availability is often restricted?

So is redemption availability, for those booking from other programs. With Aeroplan, every available seat on AC flights is available, it's just a question of price. So really no difference.

No arguments here

They just don't do it

G replace A as lowest economy fare class makes AC's Y bucket almost fully aligned with UA, who have E between M / U, and N for domestic BE fare.

Is there a document or reference somewhere that's up to date on what each booking class code means? I've got Economy Comfort in L on one flight and Economy Comfort in V on my return flight, so what practical difference does that L vs V make when they're both Comfort fares?

It's just hard to parse this thread when you don't know what the original system is before these changes.
