Fair compensation for no meal in J YUL-FRA
Currently in J on AC going from YUL to FRA - last minute upgrade I *paid* for. Flight attendant just came saying she can’t offer me a meal because they don’t have enough meals and I was a last minute upgrade (I paid for). She said she will give me crackers and cheese. I asked her what type of compensation I can expect and she told me just write a message to Air Canada.
I find this unbelievable as I upgraded to J for the bed and to eat decently after a long day at work. I fly J full revenue all the time on AC but credit my miles to United.
What should I expect as compensation from AC? Isn’t this quite unacceptable (emotions speaking). Thanks

Nothing. AC's T&C regarding last minute upgrades are pretty crystal clear:
- Prices are based on each individual flight segment for which a Last Minute Upgrade Purchase is requested.
- Last Minute Upgrades are not available on all flights and markets and subject to availability in the Executive cabin.
- Prices vary by flight and by market and will only be determined and presented to the customer during the check-in process. The customer will have final purchase decision for all eligible flight segments of his itinerary.
- The Last Minute Upgrade Purchase fee is subject to all applicable taxes.
- Passengers accumulate mileage, including Air Canada status mileage, as per original fare option they purchased.
- Air Canada cannot guarantee to provide Business Class meal service to customers who make a Last Minute Upgrade Purchase.

How did you pay for the upgrade? Cash? Points? eUpgrade? Did you upfare your ticket at the airport, or submit one of the Last Minute Upgrades?
The Last Minute Upgrade terms & conditions are here: https://www.aircanada.com/ca/en/aco/...sAndConditions
and they state: (bolding is mine)

A meal not matching the J menu given, plus non-functional AVOD at every seat on the plane yielded a 15% off base fare coupon for another flight. So I would expect you would be given that if you decide to write in to complain.

Thanks Adam on the issue if Basic fares are eligible for LMU....we ended up up-faring to Prem-Y on the outbound and Standard on the return so problem resolved if we decide to play the bidding game

On-Line Upgrade Purchase After Check-In
Aeroplan reward economy (standard) ticket BRU-YYZ. On-line check is complete and baggage fee has been paid ($70).
Frankly I was surprised that a baggage fee applied in the first place.
On-line upgrade (J or PY) has been offered. If pursued, can baggage fee be reimbursed?
Will defer to the experts.

In the past anytime I've booked anything which supercedes a previous payment (like paying for a higher cabin when I've already paid for seat selection in current cabin), the original fee was reimbursed automatically after a few days. Can't answer for baggage specifically as I don't pay for baggage but I would suspect you'll be reimbursed.

YUL-SFO
A220
Booked in comfort (T)
J LMU offer - $1,173.90
Refused!
I've had to specifically request a refund of a prepaid meal, but it was done after I asked. I suspect this would be similar.

Is this offer only for the online check in? And how early can you check in online? Most of my flights are for destinations that need a lot of documentations these days so not sure if I can check in online either.
