This new annual thread has been carved out of the previous thread in an effort to reduce the number of megathreads on the AC forum. For those interested previous versions are the original 2004 - 2014 thread , 2015 edition, 2016 edition , 2017 edition, 2018 edition, 2019 edition, 2020 edition and 2021 edition.
The original thread started by accident but quickly became a popular place to come and discuss off topic things such as hockey, new movies, or almost anything that wouldn't fit into existing AC forum threads. Air Canada or Aeroplan topics such as flight feedback, in-flight services issues, status or mileage earning/redemption are all topics that should go into existing AC forum threads so others can benefit from this information. Topics about hotels or airlines and/or their loyalty programs, destinations, in-flight travel tech. or anything best discussed elsewhere on FT may be relocated to that forum as this thread isn't meant to import travel topics to this forum that are better discussed on other forums. FT is an amazingly diverse and large community so members are encouraged to seek out all of its resources.
While the conversation is more relaxed as it would be in a lounge that doesn't mean however that the FT rules don't apply here as they definitely do so please refrain from controversial topics such as politics or religion, avoid profanities and treat other lounge patrons with the same respect you expect.

Those of you who've met me may have noticed my affinity for not very stylish, but tremendously practical cargo pants that can convert in to shorts.
I've had a few pairs from MEC that I bought over a decade ago that have been amazingly durable, but they're finally starting to fall apart. I recently ordered some from Columbia that seemed to fit the bill, feature-wise, but after wearing them only about 10 times, the stitching one one of the cargo pockets has been coming apart, rendering that pocket completely useless.
Anyone here have any suggestions for similar garments that are of better quality? (And that come in sizes big enough for someone who's both tall and large)

They're a bit more expensive, but very durable. MEC carries a limited selection, but Valhalla Pure often has sales at 20-25% off.

I'm a big fan of Prana as well. You just have to watch for the sales.

I have not found Prana nearly as durable as I'd hoped, but they're insanely comfortable shorts.

finally there is an Italian company E9 that mostly makes climbing clothing, but I use their pants for climbing and hiking, they're also a bit more styling than some of the usual players being Italian 😉:

I assume you mean Qatar. I would have held my nose and gone since I am an avid soccer fan and would have liked to see our Canadian team play a game along with a couple of others. But could not get tix when I could have planned better - now Canada Soccer if offering last min tix. The entire concept of a World Cup in Qatar plus having it in the middle of the season is a farce and everyone knows how Qatar won it.

Still awaiting Lord Stanley. And given their recent form, might be still waiting a while...

Friday Thoughts
Some days, I'm really glad I kept that old Olivetti typewriter.
There's something about old school typing that is very therapeutic. Kinda takes the edge off of the week.
