This new annual thread has been carved out of the previous thread in an effort to reduce the number of megathreads on the AC forum. For those interested previous versions are the original 2004 - 2014 thread , 2015 edition, 2016 edition , 2017 edition, 2018 edition, 2019 edition, 2020 edition and 2021 edition.
The original thread started by accident but quickly became a popular place to come and discuss off topic things such as hockey, new movies, or almost anything that wouldn't fit into existing AC forum threads. Air Canada or Aeroplan topics such as flight feedback, in-flight services issues, status or mileage earning/redemption are all topics that should go into existing AC forum threads so others can benefit from this information. Topics about hotels or airlines and/or their loyalty programs, destinations, in-flight travel tech. or anything best discussed elsewhere on FT may be relocated to that forum as this thread isn't meant to import travel topics to this forum that are better discussed on other forums. FT is an amazingly diverse and large community so members are encouraged to seek out all of its resources.
While the conversation is more relaxed as it would be in a lounge that doesn't mean however that the FT rules don't apply here as they definitely do so please refrain from controversial topics such as politics or religion, avoid profanities and treat other lounge patrons with the same respect you expect.

We have a reasonably sophisticated home automation system set up in our house, along with a pretty decent network. Security is tight and critical stuff is backed up automatically. But none of that ever considered the Broom Factor.
While we were away for a couple of weeks, I noticed that I couldn't VPN into our home network. In fact the network seemed to be totally down, which is odd since we almost never have power outages.
So, we pinged our cleaning person and asked her to check the wall of networking fun in our furnace room and power cycle the stuff there using the Big Red Switch on the power bar. And then all was good. I chalked it up to our internet provider and called it good.
Flash forward to today and all of sudden, the network died right in the middle of a meeting. WAN, LAN, everything. Coincidentally, at the same time our cleaning person was here. Hmm.
Sure enough, I run downstairs and there, leaning against the switch for the power bar (that everything is plugged into) was a broom. One of our brooms. That doesn't normally live there.
Luckily, I have both software and hardware experience and will figure out some way to ensure this doesn't happen again. But beware of the power of The Broom.

This reminds me of the correct answer to the question "what would you bring on a deserted island?": A length of fiber optic cable.
Burry it in the beach and it'll be just a few hours for a backhoe crew to come along and cut it.

As seen in our neighborhood postal outlet, it appears that the livery change is still working its way through gift cards as well:

I just applied for a board position at my HOA. We have 3 open seats and only 1 person applied before the deadline, so they extended the deadline.
This could be fun.

My impression of being on a strata board was student politics for adults, except somehow all of the people are even less mature than a group of 20 year olds.

I wonder how many times I’ve caught the water bottle on takeoff for the seat beside me.
It’s a lot.

Some people would be saddened or feel lonely with what I’m doing. Me? Love the fact I’m drinking beer in a recliner about to watch Elvis all by myself.

If you told me you do that every day I might feel differently. But I suspect an evening you can do ANYTHING by yourself is somewhat rare.

Yeah, I have decided that if someone is seated in J or PE and has not yet figured out what happens when a plane takes off or the laws of gravity, then they should have a practical lesson. Last time I grabbed onto my seatmates bottle to prevent it from sliding into Y while he blissfully carried on watching his movie.
