Missing a flight
 

I have an upcoming AC flight and it may be quite tight making the flight after work. What is the check-in cutoff for US-Canada flights? What is the AC policy for passengers who miss this cutoff and/or their flight? What has been your real-world experience with this situation, particularly departing from BOS?

While I have never flown through BOS, my observations about the US travel system is that the scrutiny between US-US and US-CAN is no different - the TSA still cuts locks open to look at bags, you go through and take your shoes off because the 'metal' will set the machine off, etc. That said, you will have one additional card to fill out for Customs, but that's on the plane.

Air Canada recommends 1h30 to YVR, or 1h in advance to other destinations, but with the staffing cuts at AC (doesn't UA handle them in BOS?) it might be prudent to say 1h30 for all flights. Hope it helps

For a transborder flight, if you missed it and it's not AC's fault, then you'll be placed on standby on the next avaialble flight. If those flights are full, then you will have no choice but pay a change fee or upfare your ticket to go on the next available day.

Thanks, that's the information I was looking for. Since there's only one later flight that day, I'll keep a close watch on the availability before I cut it too close.

By the way, AC (despite what their website says) has moved to terminal C, right next to UA. They have their own check-in stations, though, which I believe are manned by AC employees or at least people in AC uniforms.

Security at BOS is the slowest I have ever seen. If checking in at the new AC desk in Terminal C you'll likely need AT LEAST 45 minutes to get through security.

They normally put you into two lines to chec ID and then put you into one line to funnel you through to four lines.
