Complaints about lack of partner availability on Aeroplan (2022 onwards)

KNOWN ISSUES AS OF NOVEMBER 2023
  • Location-based (due to high levels of fraud):
    • Flights to/from India on partner metal: not available for booking online, may be available by phone; AC metal flights available online
      • This applies to most partners, but not all. Flights may be available to book online with AI, UA, or UK metal
      • All domestic India redemptions appear to be blocked as well, although domestic legs (e.g. DEL-BOM) may be available as part of an international itinerary
    • Flights to/from China (including HKG and MFM) on partner metal: not available for booking online, available by phone(Last verified 05/12/2023) , phone booking fees can be waived; AC metal flights available online
  • Airline-based:
    • Unclear as to why, and have been unavailable for months:
      • Etihad: J and F rewards not available at all
      • Oman Air: not available at all
    • Likely linked to fraud issues, and fairly recent:
      • Lufthansa group (LH, LX, OS, SN, EW, 4Y, EN): not available for booking online, may be available by phone
      • Thai: appears to not be bookable online; unclear whether it can be booked by phone
      • EVA and ANA: possibly limited ability to book flights to/from North America; unclear whether they can be booked by phone

Complaints about lack of partner availability on Aeroplan (2022 onwards)

Is it just me or has it been possible in the past to book flights outside of Canada using Air Canada partners via Aeroplan?

I'm trying to book something like IAD -> PHX which is a United route and on AC site all I get is "It is not possible to search for flights which have both an origin and a destination in the United States." Aeroplan pulls up nothing??

Half the internet is down right now. Try again when https://status.aws.amazon.com/ is all green.

Thanks but this was the case last night before the outage.

You cannot buy a domestic US cash ticket through AC, and if there is no availability for points on UA, Aeroplan will "[pull] up nothing".

That's only if it's a cash ticket (and it only has to connect in Canada, so you can book NRT-HAV via YYZ, or EWR-MEL via YVR, for example). Booking with points, it doesn't have to touch Canada at all.

Thanks for the clarification. I used AwardNexus last night using Star Alliance UA search. The trip I was looking for came up and there were multiple options with different point values, etc. I assume this is the United Mileage program. So do I assume that AC just doesn't have reward space on these flights?

Pretty much every reward program has access to greater availability on its home airline than other airlines do. United MileagePlus has more access to seats on UA than Aeroplan does, and Aeroplan has access to more seats on AC than UA MP does.

It used to be that if the United website (or, presumably, something that was pulling from it) showed space at the Saver level, it should be bookable from another *A program, but I don't know whether that's still true.

Are you using the Canadian point of sale? Believe flight award bookings can only be made there for the time being.

Looks like my dates just stink and nothing is available for 2 weeks in/out. You can book US/US travel with Aeroplan.. you cannot book US/US travel with Air Canada directly cash.

Thanks all.

Technically you don't have to touch Canada on a cash ticket either. GRU-EZE. Couldn't resist.

Aeroplan Star Alliance Gold booking usa to usa domestic flt

Trying to book a star alliance gold flt phx-iha-bna apr18 - bna-iha-phx apr20, aeroplan website comes up says can not book usa to usa flts? Called aeroplan and they were confused and did not know why could not book for points or cash?
The person flying is already in usa and i checked and can buy or award with united. They have award seats available but 32.5K each way seems high for econ and i really do not want to transfer hotel points to united. Tried TK but did not see any flts listed for star booking either? Any option Suggestions before i buy United awards?

Have you confirmed there's any space on United that's accessible to partners? While the error message is vague, my guess is there's no UA X/I award space which is why you can't see any options with AC.

Those United flights are not available for partner awards (seeing how they are dynamically priced)

Just like AC doesnt allow a vast majority of their flights to be booked with non-Aeroplan points.

if you can wait to the last minute it will likely become available. UA is very stingy with releasing points inventory to partners in advance. A few days out things tend to change considerably. As of today quite a few options for flights on Tuesday for example. I do see the have tickets now for Apr 19 th on Aeroplan you could lock that on and try to do a free change if inventory opens up on the 18th closer to.
