Moderator note: this thread is specifically about the US status match program. The AC forum has detailed threads on most aspects of the Aeroplan program, such as eUpgrades. If you have questions or comments about those benefits, please read and post in those threads. Posts in this thread that are off topic to the status match program will be deleted.
FAQ
Q: I've taken the flights I need to extend my status to end of 2022. Why does my status still show expiring in 2021?
A: Firstly, your status cannot possibly be updated before the flights have posted to your Aeroplan account. If all of the flights haven't posted yet, your status will not update.
As of December 8, even existing AC elites whose status was extended months ago still show December 2021 status expiry. There is no clear timeline for when status will be extended, other than that it should happen in December.
Q: Do I have to fly a round trip booking to qualify for the extension?
A: Although the T&C refer to a round trip, an FTer confirmed with StatusMatch that two one-ways would suffice.
Q: Do points bookings qualify?
A: No.
Q: Which Select Privileges should I choose?
A: See this thread.
Q: How do I use eUpgrades? / Can I upgrade this booking? / Anything else eUpgrade related
A: Air Canada eUpgrade program (October 2020 onwards)

Are there fares that don't? Or are you referring to basic fares, which from a quick glance, don't earn SQM? (I freaked out for a bit before checking, but my YYC<->YVR ticket shows Standard, which apparently won't earn much, but should count even if it gets me "the call" afterwards).

I understood this, but what I didn't quite understand was the definition of "earns points"- I thought it might mean specifically SQM rather than just award points. But it seems like hoipolloi had the answer.

I recognize that we have many American members with new AC elite status through this program, but please note that this thread is to discuss the details of the status match program, not anything and everything to do with Aeroplan.
This forum has threads dedicated to most aspects of Aeroplan/AC status (eUpgrades, status passes, etc), and in many cases the questions are answered or already under discussion there, so I will kindly ask again that you post questions/issues in the relevant threads. Posts that are off topic to this thread - i.e. not specifically related to the status match program - will be deleted.

just finished my one-day trip to keep my status for 2022. I flew from IAD-YYZ , and then YYZ-YUL-IAD. This was my first time going into canada so immigration officers were quite confused when they asked me "why are you coming to canada?" I told the first immigration lady that i came here because of an Air Canada promotion, and I have a return flight in a few hours. After asking some follow up questions about the promotion, She was still very suspicious of me (even though I have a regular unrestricted US Passport), so she flagged me for further review. Once I got to the "supervisors' office", I told them the same thing again, and, though he was surprised, he approved my entry. I mean, what else was he going to do? send me back to the US?? I already have my return ticket!

My reading of the requirements is any paid AC round trip flight by a bona fide U.S. resident. So I drove to YYZ and flew sameday YYZ>YUL>YYZ. You have until 1/15/22 to complete the round trip. If you take the roundtrip between 1/1 and 1/15 you briefly lose your status at 12/31 but then regain it within 5 days.

I thought I had until January 15, 2022, to complete the round-trip? Although I know that I'll lose the status for the first 15 days of January. I'm guessing I'll earn more points and have the benefit of status in December compared to January 2022?

Ok, but did it work? Did AC send you any confirmation that you've now satisfied the requirement and keep your status for 2022?

When did you complete your flight? If you didn't hear from AC, then did the app show you getting a new status? I don't know which status you used to match with AC.

My 50k is good until 12/31 from my status match. I took the 2 flights last week. No need for them to reach out to me.

I am doing my run next week FLL - YUL RT to keep my 75K AC Status, but am staying the weekend and going snowboarding in the Laurentians.. but I learned long ago at borders to just answer questions in the minimal amount necessary to actually answer the question honestly. 1 word pleasant and cordial replies are usually best when communicating with border officials where sufficient. And that's why I really love my NEXUS and GE pass - minimizes the conversations I even have to have with them in the first place... especially since I sport a mohawk, piercings and tattoos and have been unfairly profiled before for no good reason other than appearance... Hence, long sleeves, and a beanie pulled down and boring, bland "normie" clothing are wonderful for going through immigration - even coming home to the U.S....
