Received my 25% promo code on Tuesday and just used the code for a Palm Springs/LAX booking

I like the recognition and the 25% promo code of course

So it's 75k and SE? Or it's random? Or it's for all.

I may be asking because a family member who just had a birthday seems to have been forgotten by Air Canada do we bother asking?

What would you be asking about? This is not an advertised benefit of the Aeroplan program. It appears to be a surprise and delight type of promotion.

I guess I am jaded. I don't see it as genuine birthday wishes. I see it as a promotion timed to one's birthday.

I don't think anyone on their end would argue otherwise?

"Surprise and delight" marketing is still marketing.

"Surprise and delight" versus "Overcommit and under-deliver" is a nice change for AC.

AC is a corporation; it has no emotions. As @YOWgary said, marketing is marketing.

You're welcome to write AC if you really want, but I still don't see what would be the basis of your complaint. This is an unpublished program that, based on a number of posts above, does not necessarily hit everyone. It may be targeted or it may be random. Either way, your family member hasn't missed out on anything they were promised.

This is why I ask. My query is only to understand the basis of the exclusion / inclusion. If it is genuinely random then fine. If it is based on Aeroplan status then also okay.

But if the emotionless airline is running targeted marketing to the benefit of some and the exclusion of others there is a risk they may be excluding in a way that is not okay (either ethically and possibly prohibited by law). The possibility to receive the benefit should be equally available to all.

This is not my situation, but let's say it is random but Air Canada said, "Except those over age 65; people in that age category don't fly enough so they are excluded." That would not be okay.

They wouldn't say that. They'd say *people who don't fly enough don't qualify". And they'd use actual stats on flying.

I got one the morning of my Bday recently. I'm 25k.

I was asked to pick one of three perks:
1. 25% off base fares + a preferred seat on domestic, transborder, or caribbean
2. 500 pts if I load and link starbucks reward account with $50 or more
3. 250 points on my AP account
