Upload your COVID documents online (trial)

I just got this email.

GET YOUR REQUIRED NEGATIVE COVID-19 TEST VALIDATED BEFORE GOING TO THE AIRPORT

Your upcoming flight is part of an Air Canada trial to ease the airport experience

La version française suit ci-dessous / French version follows below;

BOOKING REFERENCE: ******

Dear valued customer,

We are excited to let you know that your upcoming flight is part of an Air Canada trial to test a new digital solution that allows you to get your required pre-departure negative COVID-19 test validated before getting to the airport. Taking advantage of this option will help speed up your airport process and ensure a more touchless experience.

Here’s how to take advantage of this option:

1. Get your proof of a negative COVID-19 test result.

Please make sure that your COVID-19 test meets the requirements of the country you are travelling to. For more information on entry requirements, please visit our COVID-19 Hub.

2. During online check-in, upload your test result document, or use your camera equipped mobile or tablet to scan the QR Code provided on your test results when prompted.

This must be completed for each passenger included in your booking. Check-in opens 24 hours before your flight and up to 1 hour before departure.

If you scan a QR code: You will receive a validation confirmation instantly. Note that currently we are only able to accept test results with a QR Code from Centogene Labs, which is based in Germany. If you are travelling from Germany, book your test with Centogene Labs here.

If you upload a test result document: You will receive an email with the validation confirmation.

· Note that the Air Canada digital solution can only process English or French documents in a PDF or JPEG format. If your test result document is in a language that is supported by the country you are travelling to, but is not in English or French, please have your document validated at the airport. This does not apply to test results with a QR code.

· If you are uploading documents for more than one passenger, note that you may not receive all validation confirmation emails at the same time.

· While our agents will do their best to validate your document in time, we may not be able to review your document in time. Do not worry, if you have not received the email confirmation for each document you have submitted before your flight, please have them validated by one of our airport specialists.

This must be completed for each passenger included in your booking.

If your document is rejected, please review your test requirements on our COVID-19 Hub and/or check for any technical issues. If time permits, please try again. Otherwise, simply bring the original copy (physical or digital) of your negative COVID-19 test result with you at the airport so that it can be validated by one of our airport specialists. Note that our Call Centre agents do not have the ability to assist with this process.

3. Print your boarding pass or load it to your phone and simply proceed to the airport

If you had already printed your boarding pass or loaded it to your phone, please make sure you replace it with the updated version that will include the document validation.

The validation of your COVID-19 test document will be automatically integrated into your booking and added to your boarding pass.

Important notes for all passengers included in your booking:

· You will still be required to carry the original copy (physical or digital) of your negative COVID-19 test results with you throughout your travel journey.

· You may also need to get other government forms or requirements validated, if applicable.

For more information on entry requirements, please visit Air Canada’s COVID-19 Hub. As the COVID-19 situation can change quickly, so can government regulations. Stay aware of any changes up until your day of your departure as it remains your responsibility to ensure you are in compliance.

As always, we remain committed to providing you with a safe and comfortable journey. Thank you for choosing Air Canada and we look forward to welcoming you on board.

Air Canada

I guess one big question is how long this will just be a "trial" as mentioned in the email that the Cow posted upthread.

I don't think I posted about this, but my return flight (YVR-SFO) had the system offered at check-in. I uploaded my test, and they rejected it ~18 hours later due to it being the "wrong type".

It was not the wrong type.

Airport agents accepted it (though they did struggle to determine the test type, which slowed things down).

I was prompted to upload test results for my Saturday YYZ-EWR flight during checkin (using the mobile app). I did so and they were approved - but an Air Canada agent standing outside the customs hall collecting attestation forms still asked me to show it to them at the airport anyways - so not sure what the point of that was, but presumably at another station where AC doesn't staff the door to the customs hall, I could have got through without ever showing the results to anyone in person.

Was not prompted to upload results for my BOS-YYZ return flight yesterday. Showed the PCR test and vaccine proof at the gate (still not sure why they asked for that and not the ArriveCAN receipt).

I'd go with "There should be a remark on the PNR that says I've already been approved"

But if it's how my experience was, they're just looking at paper and aren't standing at a terminal where they can look anything up.

Exactly. Submitting your test results online does put a notation on the boarding pass as well under remarks, but they weren't checking boarding passes either. So whatever.

If there's a station where they check test results at the check in desk or gate, similar to passport verification, I can see it working well. But YYZ Transborder is not like that right now.

I'm flying tomorrow from YVR to LAX and I'll let you know of my experience at the airport as I've uploaded everything, albeit, I uploaded the PCR test after my initial check-in. A couple of hours later when the test results arrived I went back in to "check-in" and uploaded the test at that time. No further update in the Remarks field as of yet.

btw...as my trip is just for one day, does anyone know if I can use my PCR test, issued here in YVR for my return flight? The PCR test will still be within 72 hours of my departure flight back to YVR. Many thanks.

Cheers

sounds to me there's no benefit for travellers in doing this. This is like spending extra time to help the airline find ways to reject your PCR results in advance

Mine was rejected in advance and approved at the airport.

So it doesn't seem like having it approved helps, or having it rejected hurts.

That being said, they might be trialing this to see if they can do it more efficiently through this means than to have airport staff do it all, after which point they might change how it works.

I've just received an email advising that my COVID test has been approved. On my boarding pass it now has the notation "ADOC".in the "REMARKS" section. Let's see if I will need to still present my COVID test.

Cheers

My wife's and my test results were accepted by the app and then approved the morning of the flight a few hours before we got to the airport, though the check-in agent still asked for them and said the system required it. She had no idea about the pre-approval.

When I boarded in YVR I did not have to show my COVID-19 test nor did anyone ask because the remarks said "ADOC". On my return from LAX I did show at check-in since I did not upload for the return flight. On the return they wrote on the boarding pass the PCR test was checked.
