The auto rebooking has already done things on my legacy tickets such as changing origin / destination to different countries 1000+ miles apart, and changing a brief connection into a 3 day stopover.
Supervisors changed a ticket for me to my preferred carrier/route after I acknowledged that it needed the same exact carrier & connection segments etc. When they were having problems finding that, I suggested very different flights that would work.... and they went with my routing.
I also had a legacy ticket changed this month in which AC stopped daily service from my destination. I mentioned they were "making" us stay an extra night and incur lodging and an extra covid test. They agreed to route our return to a different city (where we needed to be that following day). This would have been an easy change under the legacy/fixed points program, and is one of the things I will miss the most.

I had no luck as well. Is forcing the same routing even after an involuntary change not a violation of something??? I had a flight change by a day and couldn't make it work, they wouldn't allow me to change to a date that would work unless I could find the same routing (airline and cabin), yet they had no problem changing the routing as part of the involuntary change.
The impression I got was this is due to their inability to recalculate YQ...seems like an arbitrary BS policy that seems questionable to me. Had to cancel as departure was tomorrow and after days of searching I couldn't put anything together as a placeholder that they would accept.
They kept telling me to cancel and rebook...yea, great at the new low price of 410k vs the 300k I booked at.

Ya they kept telling me as a result of not being able to find anything, my only option is to cancel and rebook. Well thanks. Ugh

Weak is right - I really don't think that's a valid excuse and would love to see some T&C that says they can change rules on a ticket because their system can't recalculate.

I have had a flight from BKK to TPE booked for the last ~1.5 years under the old AP system as part of a mRTW. It kept getting cancelled and changed as Taiwan is refusing entry or air transit for connecting flights.
I was told the flight path can not be changed (airports and airlines must be exactly the same and in the same order) for the last year as the flights kept getting rebooked.
Flight was cancelled for a 3rd time today, and the AP lady today repeated the policy. After a bit of discussion and me asking if a supervisor could book a different flight from BKK to YYZ for the return, she put together a new routing for me and got it approved by the supervisor.
Not sure how many of you have old-system tickets still, but it might be possible to modify the routing if you have been cancelled on a lot, are extra nice and get a nice agent.
