I trust this Clean Care+ is on only during the pandemic and we can be assured we go back to the cleanliness standard before the pandemic?

It seems the measures they're adopting (disclaimer: I'm not an epidemiologist) seem designed for reassuring their staff and customers rather than any meaningful reduction in risk of viral transmission. Mandatory mask wearing is one thing (ridiculous screening questions are another), but the newly-announced temperature checks by my understanding do little if anything to filter out contagious travellers.

This is the first one of these I've received:

This is a Comfort class booking for the ill-fated YHZ Do. Obviously, I will be cancelling, but it's interesting to see this approach.

The original date or the revised one? I'm still holding out some hope for the October date, although I'm on an Aeroplan ticket than can be cancelled for free.

I like that they went straight to "Clean Care PLUS". Was there a brief period when they offered Clean Care, and then decided to enhance it?

This all reminds me of one evening when we were coming up with bad restaurant slogans, and my son suggested "Now Poop-free!"

This was for the original dates, so these flights are in June.

My question to this story, what happens if your temperature is to high at the connection city?

https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/air...erns-1.5562939

Air Canada temperature checks raise privacy concerns, experts say

'Temperature taking is not effective at all'

So what if I just ran the entire length of YYZ to catch my connection?

Or just spent the last two hours roasting in the Priority Pass lounge there before my onward flight?

This temperature taking thing is total performance theatre designed to make some pax feel better about sitting next to others. IMHO, of course.

There are some choice quotes in that article, firstly from the privacy experts:
"If the real reason why they're testing temperatures is to give some false sense of comfort to passengers, well, that's simply not going to pass muster if the privacy commissioner ever investigates."
But the best is saved for last by Leslie Dias UNIFOR union rep who really put her foot in it:

"I'm not sure why Canadians' privacy is more important than the privacy of passengers in Europe, Asia and so on," said Dias.
So let's give up our privacy because everybody else is? Wow, words can't begin to describe how myopic and tone deaf this statement is.

Temperature checks aren't perfect as there are asymptomatic carriers. But it does eliminate the highest risk i.e. people who are already displaying symptoms. Would you sit next to someone coughing like crazy in this environment ? I wouldn't want to sit next to someone with a fever either. Thermal scanners are quite common in airports, and these are extraordinary times.

If the only people that will be flagged are those with clear symptoms then you don't need a temperature check. Large area thermal scanners that you see in the likes of HKG are managed by the airport, health or border authorities, not by the airlines, that is a huge difference. If somebody is coughing like crazy on an aircraft it could be for any number of reasons and a temperature check isn't going to help.

It seems to me that the expectation of a union rep who isnt myopic and tone deaf is a bit optimistic.

But not if someone has taken a bunch of cold/flu medication just to game the system and get on the plane as was reported from some of the repatriation flights.

Seeing some AC marketing whiz simply added a + to a brand of toilet paper, your son is not far off the mark.
