Great, so now we've cleared that up, the amount that's subject to the EU261 compensation should be half of the points and YQ, since this was a round trip booking, which is 110K points and $560; 75% of that is an awful lot more than what AC has offered you. They'll hopefully come around quickly once you mention EU261.

She was on an award ticket that I paid 220K miles and almost $1300 for. |

She was downgraded on one segment of a two-segment (return) ticket. Moreover, the $1,300 includes both a carrier surcharge and government taxes. The cost of the daughter's ticket for the downgraded segment is thus 50% of the miles (unless AC broke it out differently, which it did not) plus 50% of the carrier surcharge. If by some chance, the taxes vary by class of service, then that tax difference would also be refundable. That all works out to: Miles: 220,000 x 0.5 x 0.75 = 82,500 Cash: $560.75 (unless the surcharges vary by segment). |
Update:
I go the following response: Thank you for your response. We are sorry to learn about your disappointment with the compensation you received. This amount was based on the value of the segment that was affected on your ticket and not in relation to the amount you paid total for the ticket. While we realize this does not meet your expectations, we earnestly hope you will accept this in the manner it was intended. Respectfully, we are unable to offer additional compensation as requested. We would like to thank you, once again, for contacting us. We recognize we did not leave you with a favourable impression on this occasion but we hope you will allow us the opportunity to provide you with a more positive travel experience in the future. We appreciate this opportunity to review your concerns. |

I go the following response: I skimmed the earlier posts but couldn't find the reason for the downgrade? Air Canada has always boasted that it would not oversell the business class cabin. |
